AIBU to go get checked at the hospital

Hi,

Thursday morning I suddenly started coughing with a fever.
Later that evening I became very breathless, unable to catch my breath at all. I ended up using my daughters ventolin which helped.

I cannot hold a conversation without being breathless, even at rest.
Fever is only 39º
Sharp pain in my left lung area, particularly when breathing in and coughing.
Body pain, aches and chills.

Aibu to go to the urgent care today?

Ybu: wait and go to the doctor Monday or call 111

Yanbu: get checked out.

I don't want to waste anyone's time, I know how crazy busy they are.

Thank you!

YANBU, goodness. Go get it checked out!

Thank you! I never know when it's OK to seek hospital help.

I did do a covid test today and that was clear, so that's good.

Call 111. It's their job to advise and signpost you
They'll likely recommend you get checked out, but may be able to make you an appointment so there's less waiting around

Thank you, that's a good idea. They can always tell me to wait until Monday if need be too.

You could ring 111 but to be honest, with chest pain they would usually advise an ambulance. So I would take yourself off to urgent care. The not being able tobhave a conversation without being breathless is what would worry me.

It sounds very much like when my daughter had pneumonia. She had fairly localized and significant pain in her chest in her lung. I think it can settle in a specific part of the lung. Plus fever, breathlessness and she had a hard time taking a full breath because of the pain. And generally feeling unwell. She wasn't critical - we took her to urgent care and they saw her immediately and was given antibiotics but it wasn't an ambulance situation. I would go to urgent care asap.

You should seek medical attention now you are unwell , your symptoms could be serious esp sudden breathlessness & chest pain worse on inspiration = you need to have pulmonary embolism ruled out amongst other things

So breathless you cannot speak in sentences
Sharp chest pain worse on inspiration
Signs of possible significant infection ie sepsis inc fever & "chills",aching all over

Daysie · 27/01/2024 04:29

I'd get a check asap for what you've described.

Don't wait.

Pandermonium · 27/01/2024 05:51

Thank you, it doesn't open until 8, so I'll head over then.

I did do the online 111 service and that told me to call 999, but I don't want to waste an ambulance. I feel like I've run a marathon with how out of breath I am even just sat here in the chair, but I'm not dying.

Thank you. I did wonder about pneumonia. I've had a chest infection before but this feels much worse.

I hope she recovered quickly? X

I've also had pneumonia and it was very similar. It was diagnosed through a chest x ray at hospital (I went to a and e as it was a weekend)

Hope you get seen soon!
