Quick advice please

I’m just posting for some quick advice please for anyone who may be able to help.

Was diagnosed with Adenomyosis and have been prescribed Prostap.

I have self administered the prostap injection this evening and I’m experiencing pain in the abdomen on that side (but not at the injection site). The pain is severe with movement but ok if lying still.

The directions did state for “health professionals” but I assumed as I’d been prescribed it, and without any other advice, it was fine to self administer?

Ive self administered injections before through IVF and to prevent blood clots. Had some pain with them at the site, but this pain is all on the side and about 2 inches above the injection site.

Ive tried to google but not coming up with much. I’m hoping that it’s just muscle pain but does anyone have any advice please? Should I call 111 or just see how I am in the morning?

I have no experience of this, sorry, but if you’re feeling worried, I’d suggest calling 111. Good luck 🌺

Why would you not call 111?

Onelife2024 · 27/01/2024 04:41

My prostap injections are given by a nurse into my upper arm. I would ring 111.

Call 111. My prostap is given by a nurse. I have to order the medication and take to the appointment

Thanks all. Managed to sleep for a few hours but woke up in agony. Going to give them a call. I feel really stupid now as it wasn’t mentioned that I needed someone medically trained to administer.

update when you can, OP?

HollyKnight · 27/01/2024 11:10

They can be self-administered by the patient if there is no other option available. It's a lot more common since Covid. People react differently to the drug, so it is impossible for anyone online to tell you if this is a normal temporary sideaffect or if it's a rare severe one. Definitely phone for advice.

Hope you’re doing okay, OP x

Sorry I didn’t update yesterday. I’m also on my period so was in pain with that too with heavy bleeding so I spent the day in bed.

I decided to leave calling 111 for 24 hours to see if the pain eased (I couldn’t bear the thought of leaving my house yesterday) and it has a little today but still tender.

I’ll book an appointment with a nurse to inject next time. Lesson learnt 🙈

Thank you for your nice messages.
