How long did it take for you to lose weight after having a baby and did your body look the same?

Posting on here for traffic lol

just curious how long did it take you to lose the baby weight? Was it quickly or slowly or didn’t you manage it?

how different did your body look compared to pre pregnancy? Was it completely different? A bit different or did it just look the same?

did you feel self conscious about how you looked? Were you happy or unhappy with how your body looked?

were you able to wear the clothes from pre pregnancy or did you have to get rid of a lot of beloved dresses even when you got back to pre pregnancy weight because they didn’t fit right?

the reason I’m asking is because I’m planning on trying to get back into a semi decent shape by June (due in March) to be fair I haven’t put that much weight on and my bump is very neat as it’s mainly all baby. I do plan to take measures once my child is born like try to go on decent daily walks, eat right, wear belly wraps to bring stomach in quicker and help with muscles coming back together, combo feed etc. I’ve heard some women look better after they’ve had a baby and I’m hoping I’ll be one of them.

@NewbieToThis I lost the weight really quickly through breastfeeding for 9 month (first DS) and 6 months (second DS). I was constantly ravenous while they were feeding, and ate lots of biscuits etc. When I stopped feeding them I stopped eating the biscuits.

Boobs were a bit saggy for a while after breastfeeding, but eventually regained their shape.

I was back in pre pregnancy clothes in about a week! But I was breastfeeding and I had no appetite after the birth and the weight always drops off me if I don’t eat properly.
I did then put on a little more weight once my appetite came back and I was still breastfeeding. Went up to 10stone (I am 5’7”)
as soon as I stopped breastfeeding after nearly two years, I went back to 9 and a half stone and have been there ever since. I prefer my post pregnancy body. It’s the same but I went up a cup size!

Who cares? You’ll have made an actual living person. Why would you even want to look like that hasn’t had any effect on you?

I lost the weight within a few weeks but it took 18months for me to regain the same level of fitness and strength as pre-pregnancy. That's because I completely rested my body for six months after birth so it could recover, then very slowly built up over another six months from that, then more in the next six months.

The reason I care about this is because I feel so good, physically and mentally, when my body is strong, fit, healthy, and not carrying excess weight. When I was pregnant, I was also curious about how long it would take to get back to that great place. I wanted to know I could feel that good again, post-baby.

After DS1 I lost the weight very quickly and was back in my pre pregnancy jeans within a month. I was 22 so don’t know if that played a part. My body shape had changed a bit but generally it was fine and I didn’t feel any more self conscious.

I’m now 33 and has my last baby last year. Good grief my body looks like it’s aged 20 years in that time 😂 probably a stone heavier but it’s not the weight so much as my whole body shape has changed, my hips are wider and my boobs are bigger, I had an emergency section too so have this pouch that I didn’t have before.

It’s not ideal but I don’t get hung up on it. I’m getting married in June so am trying to lose that stone and start swimming again but I’ll probably give up to be honest as I always do!

I made no attempt to get back into shape after any of my three. I was too tired and focused on DC. It just wasn't something I was interested in but within six months of each birth I was the thinnest I've ever been due to breastfeeding. I was really surprised by the impact it had on my body and I had no Idea that might happen.

merryandbrightdelight · 27/01/2024 20:03

After DD1 I lost the weight and fit back into my old clothes without dieting or exercising, I felt amazing! 18 months later I had DD2 - this was a lockdown pregnancy/baby, if anything I was smaller pregnant then than I am now! Body has changed, my old clothes are now a distant memory. I haven't exercised as I cannot find the time, I could do with dieting but don't help myself, we have a holiday booked for June and I'm hoping I sort myself out by then!

However I've also realised I'm likely at an age where my weight has 'settled' - friends of a similar age have all said the same thing about their weight. I guess yes, although I would like to shift some weight, I'll never be the size I was when I was in my 20's again

bridgetreilly · 27/01/2024 21:19

@slowerprofessor That’s a different thing, though. Regaining strength and fitness is a great goal. Expecting your body not to have changed is not.

Weight just falls off me when breastfeeding so I have actually ended up thinner than when I fell pregnant each time!!

Currently pregnant with number four 😍

I would say I have reached pre pregnancy weight within three months every time.

Gemstonebeach · 27/01/2024 21:26

My ribcage is wider than previously and I still get a wierd little fat roll at the bottom of my belly, no matter how much weight I lose, I think I’d probably need to get it surgically removed if it really bothered me but it doesn’t as I still look fine in clothes when I am thinner and I just need to lose some non pregnancy related weight at the moment. But other people I know just snap back into shape and look the same as they always did so I guess it just depends on you as a person and how you looked before you got pregnant.

7 months and completely different shape. I have an eating disorder though.

Inanufpr1 · 27/01/2024 22:19

It’s crazy how different everyone is so I don’t think you’ll know until it’s your turn! I lost all my baby weight within 2 weeks of each pregnancy despite having 3 kids in 4 years. In fact I have had to go on a high calorie diet each time because my weight dropped way below normal. My sister is the same height and same build as me but has never got back to her pre baby weight 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just enjoy your baby though and don’t worry about it!

HollyJollyRobin · 27/01/2024 22:43

10 months later and I'm still the same weight as I was a fortnight after giving birth!
I am on a diet now and the plan is...walk as much as I can, stick to my calories with the aim of losing 1st every 3 months!

mrssunshinexxx · 28/01/2024 07:02

Might be realistic if you have a VB but less likely if EMC you are so swollen for much longer as you've had 9 layers of fat and muscle cut,
I was back very close to how I looked pre baby at 16weeks PP but I was pregnant again a couple
Weeks later dd2 is now 2 and still have half a stone to lose and a small over hang from sections I don't think honestly will ever go it's like I've been stitched too tight

Having a baby doesn't mean you have to stop caring about yourself. What an odd comment.
