Am I being unreasonably impatient

I had an interview a while back, I got told I had the job, I’ve taken forms of ID into the head office. I have completed all the forms, given referral details and started the DBS process.

This was all done on the 10th January, I text the manager to say I’ve completed this and heard nothing back. My dbs is still stating that my ID needs to be verified, I then contacted HR via email to see if there was anything else I needed to do and didn’t get a reply. After four days I rang HR who said that as long as I’ve given in my ID it’s fine. I have rang the manager but the phone was off, I’ve had no call back after leaving a message.

Ive already given in my notice when I got told I had the job which is up on the 8th Feb. I’ve had the job offer letter but nothing else. Am I being ghosted, do I keep ringing? Panicking as there is no communication, any idea on what I should do?

This isn't unusual with big companies, although it's not ideal.

It'll be fine.

Thank you, I’m just worrying a little bit as I keep thinking what happens if they’ve changed their minds. I’ve got three kids that I need to support, we’re on our knees now, let alone if I end up without a job 😢

Ask your previous boss if you can stay, assuming you're leaving on good terms and they haven't replaced you yet? I personally feel it will be fine, but also it's often a sign of how disorganised a company is. Imagine chasing them like this for anything you need (holidays approved, problems in the workplace). It's just not a good look and I personally would never again follow through with a place that treated me like this, unprofessional and IMO tells you all you need to know about how they treat/value their employees!

If it's the NHS it could be months before they get themselves sorted out!

Well. I had a similar issue which has turned out terrible.

Got a job in January.
Gave in notice. Last day at old job in March
DBS pending
Got approved in MAY (it took 85 days)

  • I lost out on 2.5 months pay, a bonus because I wasn't 'employed' on a certain date despite working for the NHS for 13 years
  • child started nursery in feb ready for me to start work in (I assumed) March, couldn't take them out without losing place so had to pay for 3 months nursery (nearly 2k per month) even though I had no income,
-Got pregnant much sooner than expected, not entitled to occupational maternity pay due to a 'break in service'

HR have no sway over DBS

Moral of the story, don't hand in your notice until pre employment checks are complete...
