To not wash the inside of my vagina?

Secretname123 · 25/01/2024 10:32

First AIBU so please be nice! There is a huge debate going on on twitter where people are horrified that some women wear tampons in the shower (it seems to be the majority of the many women responding to the tweets who are horrified). They claim it’s unsanitary because then you can’t wash inside your vagina. I thought we weren’t supposed to do this? I’m sure I had this drummed into me as a child. I never have and have never had an infection. Have I been doing it wrong all these years?!

Maybe it's just me but I wash every orifice thanks.
I prefer to bath rather than shower so, straight away, I'm immersing my entire body in water. I wash my face first, including nostrils and ear holes, the latter of which gets more attention when I wash/rinse my hair.
Then wash my entire body front (yes there!) to back (yes THERE [with a flannel]!) Then rinse.
As I'm drying, I brush my teeth. Can't think of an orifice I've missed, can you?

This thread has been nothing short of eye-opening...

You are cleaning out your rectum with a flannel? Jesus 🤔

FluffyFanny · 25/01/2024 21:12

I think some people are confused about what is meant by vagina.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 25/01/2024 21:39

Vulva and pubic area - mild soap. It's skin that sweats

Labia and outside of entrance - water only

Er....you ARE aware that the labia and outside of entrance ARE the vulva and pubic area?

I don't believe half these posts, I think they must be from people who don't have a female body. No-one can be so ignorant.

"The components of the entire vulva are the mons pubis, labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, urethra, vulva vestibule, vestibular bulbs, Bartholin's glands, Skene's glands, and vaginal opening."

CurlyhairedAssassin · 25/01/2024 21:40

It's really not fucking rocket science.

The vulva is everything on the OUTSIDE.

The vagina is on the INSIDE.

You stick a flannel up your nostrils, up your vagina then up your bottom?

I was actually instructed to by the hospital and to pay particular attention to my perenium, for some odd reason! But yes a very small amount on the sponge in the shower, quick wipe up, like you'd wipe after a wee, rinse off and done!

"Quick wipe up, like you'd wipe after a wee"?

"Up" is ambiguous. I assume you mean you wipe front to back? Wiping back to front is not a good idea. No wonder they told you to pay particular attention to your perineum, they must have been worried about the transfer of bacteria from your back passage to your front areas.

This thread has made me do involuntary pelvic floor muscle exercises, my labia minora are like Ena Sharples nagging on Elsie Tanner (you have to be a certain age).

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 25/01/2024 21:53

Get the Karcher on and VROOOOOMMM!

it is ironic that out of all the orifices the vagina is the one to be targeted for the deep clean. Misogyny in action right there.

Sssh, they are my father's grandmothers.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 25/01/2024 22:02

I really really hope that the posters saying that the insides need to be cleaned in some way are not women who have absorbed some kind of misogynistic porn atittude about what women are supposed to smell or taste like.

I mean, the porn "mmm, your pussy tastes so good" does not mean it tastes of scented soap. It should not taste of ANYTHING other than normal healthy fresh vaginal secretions. Which a normal healthy male should find a turn on. They should not want it to smell of "tea tree and lemon" or some such rubbish.

I'm going to stop there cos it's starting to sound a bit seedy and I don't want to be banned after 19 years here. 😄

augustusglupe · 25/01/2024 22:04

A gynaecologist once told me never to use products down there. Just warm water.
You’re not meant to wash inside.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 25/01/2024 22:16

I’m horrified that women are using any sort of scented product on their vulvas, let alone vaginas. I can’t use any toilet paper or sanitary product that’s scented (I’m convinced that the devil himself came up with those) so a wash with water on the vulva is my limit. It self-cleans so why on earth would you introduce products that irritate the area?

@Jumpingthruhoops That's not what people are saying, they're saying that the vagina is usually the only orifice this many people feel they have to wash internally by going up in it. I aassume you're not doing that. Smile

Some gay men aim a lot of water up themselves before being a recipient of anal, which seems a shame. They do all sorts of preparations for it to try and avoid the deadly taboo of having some poo appear during anal.

I think you're right and most blokes don't want it to smell/taste of products. I had one have a mouthful of floral antiperspirant once and he wasn't happy. 😂

Labia and outside of entrance is the vulva. I dread to think

uxcate · 25/01/2024 22:35

But why do you feel you need to wash that orifice but not others? Why in particular do you feel your vagina is dirty enough to need swilling around with water, but not your rectum?

I always put a soapy finger up my bum when showering. Mild soap mind

Paw2024 · 25/01/2024 22:44

I just wash anything on the outside (as if I'm standing up and not contorting!) with a mild wash
Rinse with water well including inner areas that aren't visible if I'm just standing there but not up into vagina
Bikini line I have to do with hibiscrub for medical issue and I also use that on my armpits

I wipe up from the area around my urethra, nowhere near my back passage? I tend to wipe where has got wet, not the whole front to back thing? I suppose we all pee differently, but I wasn't questioned about my wiping habits, it was just a requirement for the op prep that I had to pay attention to my perenium!

When i was younger i used to be able to kind of suck the bath water up inside my vagina and kind of WHOOSH it out again, when in the bath. Can't really do it anymore with my knackered old pelvic floor.

Am i the only one who uses soap on her undercarriage then?? It would smell if i didn't! I don't get thrush or anything else.

No you're not the only one, I do too! Shower gel on pubes and flaps/folds but not all the way up.

I think I would also smell a bit, as would my arse crack, feet, armpits etc if I just gave them it a cursory rinse with water!

So yeah I do find it a bit perplexing that people just give it a quick rinse with water but whatever works for them I guess! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Good grief, I really hope the inside of my vagina is nothing like the inside of my oven!

🤣🤣

MoonWoman69 · 25/01/2024 23:04

I didn't say "scrubbing" with Hibiscrub? Gentle washing, I checked first with my GP, if it helps your comprehension, he said it was actually fine, as only a small amount is needed. I have suffered from none of my previous problems since using it, nor have I suffered from anything else for that matter! Works for me and I'm sticking to it! 🤷🏻‍♀️

For clarity (and please allow for difficulty of being accurate without a stylus) the blue area is water only. The larger oval vulval area - mostly skin and fine for a mild soap!

To not wash the inside of my vagina?

Well that's an unnecessarily defeatist attitude.

OMG. I have to keep pretending I'm coughing as child giving me strange looks about giggling so much and wants to know what's funny.

Oh and the cartwheels in the car wash😂
