To not wash the inside of my vagina?

Secretname123 · 25/01/2024 10:32

First AIBU so please be nice! There is a huge debate going on on twitter where people are horrified that some women wear tampons in the shower (it seems to be the majority of the many women responding to the tweets who are horrified). They claim it’s unsanitary because then you can’t wash inside your vagina. I thought we weren’t supposed to do this? I’m sure I had this drummed into me as a child. I never have and have never had an infection. Have I been doing it wrong all these years?!

You use hibiscrub on your vulva?

I was actually instructed to by the hospital and to pay particular attention to my perenium, for some odd reason! But yes a very small amount on the sponge in the shower, quick wipe up, like you'd wipe after a wee, rinse off and done!

pinkplate · 25/01/2024 15:44

@WitsHaveEnded I don't jet wash the fucker, but rinse.. yes. 😂

Lemonvalley · 25/01/2024 15:47

Gold!!! 👏 👌🏻 👌🏻 abso-efn-lutely

sweetgingercat · 25/01/2024 15:47

Vulva washing and rinsing is fine. Vagina washing is not. I can't believe people would try to send up soap and water there.

And those people discussing on X are probably men of some kind getting off on it. No doubt they've migrated here too...

whynotwhatknot · 25/01/2024 15:48

they douche in america its all they know -dont know why doctors dont say anything suppose its about money

Klcak · 25/01/2024 15:52

Never washed inside vag
The outside gets a water rinse whilst in shower
That's it
Never had any kind of vag infection or problem
Even after it got sewn up after episiotomy
I'm now post meno and vag still fine with no washing/crazy stuff

I'm not really sure tampons help a vag though
I never used them, thought it better to let the blood come out how it wanted to onto a pad.

I was replying to a post saying the only place that people consider disgusting not to clean is the vagina. Doesn't matter why I clean in my mouth the fact is it would be disgusting if I didn't because I'm pretty sure my breath would smell.

Do people with no teeth clean in their mouth, use mouthwash or something? I've never thought of that before. Just googled it and this is what I found Even when you have no teeth and have stopped wearing dentures, it is still important that your mouth is cared for and kept clean. Dampened gauze around a gloved finger is recommended.

So it looks like oral hygiene is important even if you have no teeth, I'm just hoping I don't find out myself.

Except the poster said throat, not mouth.
You don't clean your throat she said.
You replied with mouth, teeth etc.
Teeth are in your mouth, not down your throat. Your mouth is the entrance to the throat much like the vulva is the way to the vagina.

mouth and throat = vulva and vagina if you think about it.
You clean your mouth (and vulva). You don't stick a brush down past your uvula, down your oesophagus and tickle your vocal cords / up your vaginal canal and polish your cervix.

I dont wash the inside and never have. All around ofcourse 😀 but ive always read it can cause problems washing the inside.

It’s bizarre what people think up next to add to the already huge list of body hang ups women have! I hope no one actually genuinely worries about doing this.

DungareesAndTrombones · 25/01/2024 16:04

I wouldnt shower with a tampon in cos then the string would get wet and be gross in my knickers. But then again I don't use tampons since I've had kids - feels like there's an extra bend up there?!

I also don't wash up my fanny, just the outside.

Are they shoving a bar of soap up their sphincter? A little bottle brush down their penis? I assume not!!

🤣 I'd forgotten what it is to laugh, but this did the trick, thank you. 🙏

GlomOfNit · 25/01/2024 16:18

I'm on the fence... while I would never ever wash internally with soap, I certainly do have a little swill round with a finger and the warm water that's coursing down my body. For that reason I wouldn't shower with my mooncup in (and if I forgot, I usually take it out to swoosh round a bit). I'm not a user of anything perfumed anyway, but washing with anything other than water isn't a great idea.

But I do still wash it out, yes ... I assumed most women do, just with water?

Bahhhhhumbug · 25/01/2024 16:19

Ive suffered with terrible dryness since menopause, even burnt when l had a wee which was a vicious circle obv.and got progressively more sore with every wee. I found smear tests painful and was sent for a colposcopy which l found can only describe as excruciating.

I went to see an AMP initially who was lovely and one of first things she said after examining me was to stop using baby wipes/toilet wipes down there which l had always done as they dry you out and she said only use warm water to gently clean the outside only and don't even point the shower head directly up but more horizontally front to back across the area . This in itself made a great difference so l could at least wee without getting third degree bloody burns ! I was also put on Estradiol (hormonal) suppositories and was advised always drink plenty of water which l do.
I have the HPV virus which my body hasn't fought off in the usual two years the colposcopy consultant says it takes max usually with a healthy immune system and she blamed it probably on the dry environment not being good to fight it off. I will have to have annual smear tests until it's gone.

So moral of the story ladies is don't dry out your vag.

Nope, most just wash outside I would think. No need to swill any water up there.

So that water running down and which you’re introducing to your delicate mucous membranes has run past and through your armpit bacteria, possibly down your bum crack and across your perineum, and has been in contact with bacteria in your groin. Why do you feel it necessary to introduce it inside you to a place where it was never intended to be?

I've always given mine a swirl up there with shower gel and rinsed out with the shower head 🤷🏼‍♂️

But how?

Chubbywubba · 25/01/2024 16:43

But with my serious vag face on - no, your vagina does not need flushing out with soap. It doesn't like that - all you need to do is wash gently outside with water

YoureALizardHarry11 · 25/01/2024 16:50

They say you’re not supposed to, but I wash my vulva with shower gel or soap. I can’t see how it would get properly clean otherwise. It sweats throughout the day and has remnants of pee and period blood on it and you’re meant to use it water? You wouldn’t use water for the rest of your body if you sweated would you? I’ve never had thrush or BV from cleaning it this way, but no, I’ve never cleaned up inside my vagina.

uxcate · 25/01/2024 16:50

There was a thread on here a while ago about this and it became clear that some women think their vulva is their vagina and don't put cleaning products near their pubic region at all. No washing those folds of skin....

fishonabicycle · 25/01/2024 14:46

How in the name of all that's holy can a tampon absorb water from a shower? Even if you were standing on your head, legs akimbo, water wouldn't go into the vag - it's not a bucket!!!????

Oh the mental image 🤣
