I'm so stressed right now. I am emetophobic and my colleague was off sick yesterday because she was vomiting (sickness bug)

As if that wasn't stressing me out enough she is back in work today. Sitting opposite me, heavy breathing and still feel unwell.

Aibu to say she shouldn't be in???

Also what can I do to avoid catching it off her ??

It's a small office with nowhere else to sit.

@Crunchymum yeh once someone at a different place of work years ago was sick on her keyboard!

I wish she would fuck off home now. In about 15 mins she is leaving.

Too late!!! I used to be emetephobic but then had kids, and that totally cured me! If you antibac you should be fine.

@tempnameforadvice I have two kids and it's made me worse unfortunately

For future reference the nhs uses Clinell wipes and sanitizer they are disinfectant and I keep both in the office and home .

marrybarry · 25/01/2024 14:49

@AceofPentacles do those kill off stomach bug germs though?

The 48 rule as such is for schools . There is no such "rule" for workplaces as far as I am aware. Perhaps she is worried about losing her job if she takes too many sick days or making herself a target. Just use sanitisers as suggested.

Most workplaces would want to enforce the 48 hr rule as it’s hardly in their interests if all their staff succumb , d&v bugs are very contagious. The nhs says it should be 48 hrs from last occurrence of vomiting/ diarrhoea so I would be flagging it up to your colleague and any other colleagues, I would be telling my staff they shouldn’t have come in.
