To ask how much you pay per day to top up funded childcare hours?

I’ve been quoted £8 and £10 a day by a childminder and a nursery respectively, this would be for 2 days a week from September 2025. Our child will be 1 by then.

Does this sound about right? I don’t want to get too excited as it’s hugely less than their day rates which I was expecting to pay.

Ours works out at £5 per day after the 15 funded hours because DC isn't there full time, roll on September! X

anicecuppateaa · 24/01/2024 20:19

For the 2 days with funded hours the nursery charge £1.50 per child (I have twins) x 10 hours a day. So £15 per child per day.

I pay £30.10 a day with 3 year old 30 funded hour's stretched over the year. We do three days a week. Pays for unfunded hours and lunch.

Mine works on out approx £1 an hour. However, we don't use the full hours and they're only in on the school holidays.

Chestnutsroastgreen · 24/01/2024 20:55

£10 a day but no food provided or nappies etc

LewishamMumNow · 24/01/2024 21:10

DD3 does three days term time only. I've been told £100 per calendar month, so works out at just over £10 per day attended. It includes food, but not nappies. TBH I'm just so happy - before it was over £800 for the same so I'm just meh at the tenner.......

The 30 hours stretched over a full year is about 20 hours a week, so (sort of), you are paying for one full day per week throughout the year - at about £90 for that extra day. I'm in London so that's typical for me. I presume that's in total, so includes food etc, so it's probably not too bad anywhere.

Yeah I never know what the hours per week is when stretched. I knew it was 20 something.
The bill is still nicer than it was!

Don't forget fee increase each year OP.
I'm waiting for this year's increase.

Are children entitled to partially funded hours from 1 year old next year?

30 from 9 months from September 25.

@Shinyandnew1
The Tories are saying 30 hours for 38 weeks, and although it's not clear, if it's like the existing scheme that's for the term after you become nine months, ie you need to turn nine months before September 2025, or you wait until Jan 2026.
Watch this space though. There's a general election before then, and Labour have hinted they won't go through with this, but haven't said what they will do. Oh, the fun of the fair....

Wow-with nurseries closing left right and centre, I can’t imagine there will be anywhere near enough spaces for all of these children without some serious government investment.

Taenia · 25/01/2024 08:29

Our nursery charges
12.04 if your doing half days
22 if your doing full days

hanschristmassolo · 25/01/2024 09:05

For my twins childminder it's only the difference between the LA payment and her hourly rate so 25p per hour - £2.50 per day per child for the 3 days which are "funded"
