Would you quit this job..?

It's 16 hours a week. It's what I would call semi skilled, but very low paid £11ph.

Cons.
Childcare costs
dc does not seem to be enjoying childcare
Registration fees to work not covered my employer
CPD I have to do in own time
It's very stressful when I'm there, no time for drinks other than during lunch hour etc.
Struggling to cover school run for eldest child.
I have to do the odd "on call" weekend. I don't get paid for being on call, only get paid £20 if I'm called out
No chance of progression, even staff who have done course above me have been told no pay rise for doing them.
The commute and parking can be stressful
I'm so tired when I get home on the days and work
Slightly affecting my mental health
It's a job I can walk back into at any time

Pros

It's £700 a month I keep for myself.
Boss is quite pleasant and easy to get on with so I would feel guilty leaving

Do I just quit and be a SAHM?

Quit and look around for something less stressful and better paid.

butterflytattoo123 · 24/01/2024 03:05

I think you're right. That's probably what I'm going to do x

Minimum wage rises to 11.44 in April OP. Do you think all this is worth it for min wage??
Probably not.

butterflytattoo123 · 24/01/2024 12:14

@BeckyBloomwood3 exactly. In April I will probably be offered £12-£1.25 an hour if that I expect.

£12-£12.25 that was meant to say

Is that £700 before or after you've subtracted your childcare costs?

It's pretty much minimum wage, which might be acceptable if it was a low-stress job and you were also receiving an on-call allowance, were being paid for your training/CPD time and were getting your registration fees covered. But as it stands, I think you'd be better off looking for something else.

Is it care work, by any chance?

butterflytattoo123 · 24/01/2024 12:43

It's £700 before any childcare costs.

Yep no base rate pay for on call, and only £20 if you are called out. This can include minimum wage. No CPD allowed to be done in work time. Registration fees have to come out of my own pocket.

Yes it is!

You aren't paying the childcare by yourself are you? I assume you have a partner, so childcare costs are a household expense.

butterflytattoo123 · 24/01/2024 12:45

No DH covers them to be fair , he's very well paid which is why I can afford to not work at all if I decide not to.

I'd quit and stay at home with the kids.

I absolutely hated doing CPD. It's like having an additional part time job that you don't actually get paid for .

butterflytattoo123 · 24/01/2024 12:57

It's horrendous isn't it.. I even have to pay £40 a year for the CPD subscription!

SecondUsername4me · 24/01/2024 12:58

Do you have free access to all money?

butterflytattoo123 · 24/01/2024 12:59

Yes I do, I have a card to the account his wages go into
