SIL got us one of those vouchers for 3 photo sessions (in department store) with 3 complimentary photos. Now I know the drill, you get one free photo and they try and sell you loads of others but I went with an open mind. Appointment was at 12 so DH could come on his lunch hour. They kept us waiting 45 mins by which time my 4mo DS was tired and ready for his next feed. They were serving people who had come to pick up their photos and who all looked like they had also been waiting a long time. When our turn came 2 mad women jumped in front of DS and starting making bizarre noises and shaking a rattle in his face, DS did best beetroot impression and start sobbing, they couldn't wait to get rid of us "come back after a nap". So we did and it was ok, bought one photo. Not happy with complimentary one as asked for half-body shot and got full-body shot. Now I am writing this down it doesn't seem that bad but I was just so bloody exhausted with trying to keep DS clean and happy for hours on end. Wish I had complained at the time but couldn't wait to get out. Anyone else had a similar experience?

I went to venture for a photo session last week, with my 14 month old dd, and I must say that I was very impressed (not so, when they handed me the price list ).w are going back tomorrow for our viewing session, and I am determined to be strong and only walk away with our freebie!

drinkypops it wont happen - be prepared to part with money - the photo's are sooooo good. I adore mine although nearly had heart attack at the price

Ineedacreamegg · 19/03/2008 21:09

I think that is pretty shocking. They are supposed to be professionals and you just cannot leave children of any age waiting around that long.
I have been to a couple of fantastic photographers but the best one was when ds was 6 months old and the school photographer took him at toddler group and she caught something that nobody had ever seen is ds befpre she managed to get the little boy inside the baby it is my fave photo ever too and she was soooo fast.

Drinkypops - just send your Dh to pick up the photo. I knew that I would love them all and bankrupt the family - my DH is a tightwad so I made him go without me.

Drinkypops · 19/03/2008 21:13

I will be strong!! My dp is making me leave my purse at home, although I have seen one style in the brochure that i really like.......

Drinkypops · 19/03/2008 21:15

That might be the way forward waffle as I did notice the interest free credit

Thanks MotherFunk, I think I'm going to need it!

sarahloumadam · 19/03/2008 21:49

Drinkypops - there was a gorgeous photo of my DS but price was £120 and I am skint so couldn't afford it but so wish I could - good luck, be strong!

Motherfunk - seriously they were deranged but it was a Friday dinner time and they hadn't had a lunch break and if I had to get babies to smile all week I would probably be a bit deranged by the end of the week too . But do think it was unreasonable to make us wait when we had an appointment and the other people didn't - even a sign saying that when busy they couldn't frame photos etc so not sure what happened there.

TBH, I was really disappointed with Venture... Very expensive, very pushy and very fixed on what was and wasn't available...

I've used several photographers since, but the ones I liked best were GIlmores... They do dogs as well (so I can have the DSDs and DDog!!!) and the photos were excellent - I got just what I'd wanted to get from Venture, but at a fraction of the price (but still very good quality) - I got an 'Andy Warhol' thingy and another one which is really arty and all white background.

WIll def. be going back to them for DS's photos...

If anyone is in south wales I would recommend ladybird photography anyday. Female photograher who was very patient with my children. And you can take as many photos as you like and you don't have to buy them all in a frame. Excellent experience and value for money.

We went to Venture once and yes lovely photos, but the hard sell was annoying. Had similar mad department store experience to OP once. Extremely irritating, lots of waiting about. Free photo (which we had to select before seeing it as they weren't on digital (only 2 years ago)) chopped off his feet. Also DS looked TOTALLY unamused!

This Christmas, DSs nusery had a photographer come in. He was brilliant, Venture style, but lots cheaper. shop around is my advice.

Mine are with cherubs. 3 complimentary ones over a year. Last sitting was last week when I took all 5 DC in for a sitting together........all wore jeans and White tops and went barefoot. Teenagers had minimal make up! All sorts of poses....... Definitely worth it .
