To refuse to pay for the service

I’ve had my bathroom remodelled and had nothing but issues, leaks in 4 different pipes, broke the bath, window ledge is wonky, left bath end tiles without edging, toilet not fixed to wall, cabinet fitted wonky, shower screen not fitted properly so wouldn’t open, plus some other stuff.

I’ve paid a deposit before they started and half the remaining balance a week in to the job, withheld the other half till everything was fixed. They’ve now been to ‘fix’ the issues but honestly the job is terrible. They replaced the bath but the tiles are all over the place - some set further back than others, some cut too short and then space filled with silicone etc also silicone around the bath has bubbles in it. Whole job is just generally untidy and parts looks worse than they did before I had the bathroom done.

I’ve had to buy more materials for them to fix the issues which they have said to take out the remaining balance. I’m so upset with the results as it looks awful and it’s cost a lot of money. Where do I stand with paying the rest of the balance? Do I have to suck it up and pay or can I refuse/pay a lower amount?

What would you do?

AIBU - Job is done despite not to being to the standard expected. Pay the full remaining balance.

YANBU - Pay a lesser amount/don’t pay any more.

Talk to trading standards (who I believe you now have to contact via citizens advice). Take loads of photos and keep all correspondence and any paperwork etc. As for paying them, I would personally nor until everything was to my satisfaction and certainly not pay extra for their cockups!

Don't pay them until the job is up to standard

Absolutely don't pay. Work should be done to a reasonable standard and all snagging fixed.

Don’t pay until you are satisfied
