I Veeted. I Veeted real good.

All in prep for labour, I thought I'd get a head start, get the lie of the land as it were.

Currently praying to a God I do not believe in for the burning to stop. I can just about lie down, so long as I don't attempt to move any muscles from the waist down. Urination nearly made me pass out.

Being super prepared, I have Frida witch hazel foam for post birth... This briefly made the situation quite a lot worse and I entirely lost my composure for a good 30 seconds. Now having serious doubts as to whether that bad boy will be making it into my hospital bag, my foof doesn't need that sort of hate in its life.

Please tell me when I get up at 5am to drive two hours to work, that this will have passed?!

What have I done to myself 😭😭😭

Ice pack wrapped in a thin teatowel.

And never use that stuff again, as you could have been sensitised to an allergic reaction, even if you haven't actually got chemical burns from it.

Screwballs · 23/01/2024 21:13

Not to mention the cherry on top... It didn't even do a particularly great job. Once I'm able to get within a square mile of the area, it'll need a bloody good going over with a razor.

Oh dear.

I have hardly ever used veet never got on with it but do remember stinging did go after a day or so. On the plus side contractions probably a doddle compared to going to loo at the moment? 😆

Dear God I hope so.

I suggest tea tree oil and savlon, but only tested on the 'tash.

CreepyDibillo · 23/01/2024 21:29

Oh, OP, I feel for you 😢
I did exactly the same prior to labour, I'd never had an issue with Veet previously and haven't since. Skin can be more sensitive when pregnant.
I'm sorry to say it took a good few days to die down. The ice pack suggestion is a good one, hope it eases quickly.

Hydrocortisone cream?

Sauvblanctime · 23/01/2024 23:22

I used veet whilst I was in hospital having middle kiddo, he was early and I had pre eclampsia so I was in from 34 weeks. I had a vagine wax booked at 38w so because I couldn’t see it I just left it. Mortified at the prospect of the surgeon seeing my full pregnancy bush (hindsight who cares) I asked (now ex) hubby to bring some shower veet in.
Did it in hospital shower & left it for a lil longer because it was like cousin it down there.
Came off legs no issue, washing my lady garden it was another matter. The water BURNED. I had chemical burnt my vag. I was walking like John Wayne as everything was sticking to it. It was like a raw chicken fillet. Told one of the midwifes id become friends with and she was ROLLING laughing. Then told all the other midwives.......😂😂🙈🙈 ended up with special cream and a maternity pad to stop it sticking to my pants. And a massive scabby wet area when I had my emcs which was probably worse than a massive bush 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Monicaaa · 23/01/2024 23:23

Oh no, you poor thing! I had a similar reaction on my face... In a moment of utter stupidity I used veet and then thought that applying hyaluronic acid on top would be a great idea...
Surprisingly I woke up the next morning with my pillow feeling more like broken glass and a chemical burn on my face...
One embarrassing visit to the Dr where I had to disclose my stupidity... She wanted to give me a steroid cream but I wasn't happy to use it - yep strangely I still believed I knew best...
However, generous layers of E45 over the next few days and it was almost back to normal, I did wait another week or two before applying makeup and any skin care stronger than a gentle moisturiser, but i am scar free.

Disclaimer: I am clearly not someone who should ever advise anyone...

Hydrocortisone cream?

Not for waxing burns. A long lasting burn is because you ripped off the top layer of your skin. HC cream thins your skin. So it might be soothing in the short term but won't help it actually heal as fast as not putting HC on it.

Ice pack is a good shout OP. My skin got super sensitive during pregnancy, I had to stop using all my face creams and hyalauronic scrubs etc!

thinkfast · 23/01/2024 23:53

Might sudocreme help OP?

Screwballs · 24/01/2024 07:19

Fortunately I have woken up with a mild tingling that doesnt have me walking like i've defecated in my underwear. Phew.

I will NOT be doing that again. How are they even selling that stuff, it said sensitive...

Wait I thought Veet had a warning to not use it on your genital area? Or were you just doing your bikini line?

I got a spray that said legs and body, bikini line etc. I may have gotten carried away with it. I now know not to do that again 😩

CaribouCarafe · 24/01/2024 19:13

Haha yeah a spray sounds like it could definitely leave you likely to encroach on...other areas unintentionally. Glad to hear it's feeling better now!

Keroppi · 24/01/2024 19:14

Omg. Have done this on my upper lip and vowed never again... I taught myself to thread instead

Top tip get your own beard trimmer and a handheld mirror. They're the best thing

Claireshh · 24/01/2024 19:17

I had a bikini wax the day before going in for a planned section. The therapist ripped off some of my skin and burnt the rest. It was HORRIFIC. All the comments in surgery were so mortifying 😂😂😂

KarenNotAKaren · 24/01/2024 19:18

Oh flippin Nora OP the MWs won’t give a shit how hairy you are! I once, about 20 years ago, got veet on my inner labia and had to go to the GP because it blistered with it being such sensitive skin. That was a fun day

Duckingfun · 24/01/2024 19:20

Am I the only one who genuinely didn’t care what I looked like down there? It’s going to look grim regardless of what you do surely 🙈

In fairness, I'm only just heading into third trimester, I just wanted a trial with it, see if it was any good like, for when I can't quite get there, but also... Well, poor OH, I've let myself go a bit unruly compared to my usual efforts so it was a twofer, a solid practise run and a tidy up... Unfortunately having anyone near me last night was an absolute no go in the end, so I failed on all fronts! 😂

Yeah that was exactly my fear last night, fortunately I can walk today so, although I may steer clear of the area another couples of days, I think I've escaped a humiliating discussion with medical staff!
