To ask you to help me clean these items?

Hi MN

Hoping somebody will be able to help me clean up the radiator and bath/taps in my new house.

Moved in yesterday, on the bath I've tried a magic eraser, bleach, white vinegar and soda crystals. Any ideas on how I can get rust off of the radiator and clean the taps up? Get rid of the stain from the water dripping in the bath?

Thank you!

Vinegar will get the stain in the bath off, but you need to soak a cloth in it and leave it on for a while to dissolve the scale Smile

Cream cleaner? Scrub it in a circular fashion

CaraMiaMonCher · 23/01/2024 10:19

Viakal.

OfMiceandWomen · 23/01/2024 10:26

I found cream cleanser was the only way to remove stains from a bath.

Livilalaland567 · 23/01/2024 10:30

I was also going to say viakal. Not for the stain but just to shine the taps and things.
For the stain I'd try a limescale remover product.

CMOTDibbler · 23/01/2024 10:38

Citric acid - you dissolve it in boiling water then spray on. Have a look at Nancy Birtwhistle on Insta, I saw the citric acid for limescale on her stuff, and am a complete convert

MissSmiley · 23/01/2024 10:47

@CMOTDibbler where do you get it? Is it granulated? I live in a hard water area and limescale is the bane of my life, I can't even find the gel viakal anymore only the spray one

CMOTDibbler · 23/01/2024 10:52

@MissSmiley I get mine on Amazon, its about £8 a kilo which lasts forever. Or you can buy from places that do green cleaning products. It comes granulated then you can make it up as you like - if you want more of a sticky gel you could put it in washing up liquid as long as its not lemon

MissSmiley · 23/01/2024 10:53

@CMOTDibbler thank you, I've checked out Nancy and I think I might need to buy her book

The pink stuff cream in a pot?

headcheffer · 23/01/2024 10:53

Is the bath enamel?

Lovebeingamummy2 · 23/01/2024 10:55

Have you tried the pink stuff paste?

headcheffer · 23/01/2024 10:55

Taps and radiator I would use vinegar. If the radiator is rust, it looks like it is, I would get the worst off and then get a little WD40 and spray on a cloth then rub over the rust. Keep doing this every week and it'll all come off and then you want to do it over those spots to keep it getting worse.

Pfpppl · 23/01/2024 10:56

Kilrock limescale remove gel is really good, should do your taps and the bath stain. If you find a way to get rid of the rust let me know please!

butterflymum · 23/01/2024 10:56

For the rust on radiator, I would try wet aluminium foil first. It worked for me on a non-heated towel stand.

MaxandMinniesMummy · 23/01/2024 11:24

I swear by HG products. They do a professional grade limescale cleaner which should deal with the limescale. Try Pink Stuff Paste on the bath stain and radiator.

The edge of a copper coin rubbed along the limestone stain on the bath/taps will clean it up brilliantly.

Panama2 · 23/01/2024 11:31

I find hydrogen peroxide or alcohol work well

PS It doesn't damage the enamel which a lot of the chemical cleaners do.

Thanks so much for all the tips! X
