"That's wild"

I hate it.

Like the person thinks they're 19 and living in the 70s or something

It's seen as more appropriate than mental/crazy/insane.

However, my grandmother would always say "she got wild" when describing someone getting angry/losing their temper so tbh I wouldn't be so sure that wild is all that innocent a term either. Smacks of "savage" in the colonial sense to me.

I think it’s a Kardashian thing.

Unportula · 23/01/2024 17:41

Far out, man.

That's gravy, booby.

I think some of these words and sayings should make a comeback unless like me, they never went away! 😩

Groovy.
Far out.
Dig it.
Mellow.
Bummer.

I would be alright with those because they are said kind of ironically. I have a particular dislike for the use of 'It's wild'for something that is just slightly out of the ordinary or 'a bit odd'.

@Judystilldreamsofhorses I'd use 'wildly busy' in place of 'insanely busy' or 'madly busy'. It's just a careful way to use words - especially in the context of work, when you have no idea about other people's mental health (or the mental health of their loved ones).

Wild altogether!

Or sarcastically.

’I ironed my tea towels on Saturday night, with a glass of dry sherry.’

’God, Maeve, you’re wild altogether! Calm down, would you?’

piscofrisco · 23/01/2024 19:01

Ha. I say it all the time and I have done for about twenty years. I neither think I'm 19 nor living in the 70's

Trying2310 · 23/01/2024 19:15

Northern Irish and say it at least several at least several times a week! Usually in response to news or in exaggeration of whatever topic we are discussing. Today it would be 'It is wild out there, so it is!'

PopcornAndGummyBears · 23/01/2024 19:27

Several apps have got there before me, but yes - here in N.I./Ireland things are either wild, grand or wick depending how good/extreme they are.

(and yes, it’s a wild one out there the night)
