To ring 111 or is it ridiculous?

34 weeks pregnant and feeling completely fine until about half an hour ago when I was watching TV and my eye slight suddenly went really funny. All I can explain it as is a coloured flashing zigzag in my left eye. I've no other symptoms except this. I wear glasses anyway, but my eyesight really doesn't feel right. Kind of like double vision but not extreme.

I don't know how to explain it other than that.

Am I being ridiculous? Is this just a type of migraine?

I had this when I was having my Son. No other symptoms, thought it was just one of those things but it turned out that I had pre-eclampsia.

Glad you're getting checked, it's always better to be safe.

tinyracoon · 22/01/2024 23:23

I had an eye twitch and a headache 2 weeks ago and it was pre-eclampsia, now I have a two week old baby thanks to a very quick induction! Hope it's not bit ALWAYS best to get checked - I felt totally fine other than that!

beigelamp · 22/01/2024 23:24

Thanks all. Still waiting in triage and got a banging headache 😢 paracetamol has done nothing

You've done absolutely the right thing, OP. If it is "just" a migraine then great, and I hope you get some relief soon. If it's pre-eclampsia then you're in the best place and have options to make things as stress free and safe as possible for you and baby. Wishing you all the best.

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 23/01/2024 00:44

Can you not go to Labour ward? My pre eclampsia started pretty much like yours and I called the Labour ward who said to come in.

TrixieFatell · 23/01/2024 00:58

I'm glad you've gone in. Whilst high BP can be a symptom I know of women who have been developing pre eclampsia without a high BP. It was picked up in their blood tests and urine. I hope it's nothing but always best to make sure

Caerulea · 23/01/2024 01:10

Good luck OP, you did the right thing. Fingers crossed it's a one-off migraine & if not then you're in the best place!

thaegumathteth · 23/01/2024 01:20

Hope your head eases soon

FloofCloud · 23/01/2024 01:48

I occasionally have this and was told by an ophthalmologist that its an optical migraine. I get them with no headache. First time it happened I was driving and it was terrifying. Being 34 weeks pregnant though I would go to hospital.

rainbowstardrops · 23/01/2024 07:48

I'm glad you went to get checked out and hope everything is fine.

beigelamp · 23/01/2024 11:42

Hi. Sorry everyone for not updating sooner. Was in triage for ages last night and only got home in the early hours.

My BP was normal but they did find protein in my wee sample. I had blood tests to test for pre eclampsia and then was put on the monitor. I also had the persistent headache all the time I was there. Baby movements met the criteria but they said there was no acceleration compared to the last trace I had so they were a little concerned about that. They sent me home, however I am going back this afternoon for another trace and to find out the results of my tests.

Still none the wiser at the moment

Ring triage or your midwife and see if they will check blood pressure

Sorry Op just realised there was updates

ProfessorInkling · 23/01/2024 12:16

Best wishes OP, thanks for updating us, hope everything is okay when you back later on BrewCake

Alwaysinthehouse · 23/01/2024 12:19

It does sound like a migraine with aura. Good to get it checked out though if you’re pregnant and it’s your first one. I had them while pregnant but I also did have pre eclampsia and I think there’s a link! (Although just because you’ve had a migraine doesn’t mean you have pre eclampsia, and normal BP at your check today is very reassuring).

Caerulea · 23/01/2024 12:48

Glad they are doing everything needed! Hope you get answers this afternoon 🤞

MerCatsSpawScience · 23/01/2024 19:12

Glad you were checked & they have followed up on it. Hope you got answers today & are feeling a bit better.

beigelamp · 23/01/2024 19:28

I am home now, blood tests were fine and they were much happier with baby on the monitor. Must have just been one of those things but glad I went in to get checked!

Caerulea · 23/01/2024 20:08

Glad to hear it! It's the worst way to naively experience aura migraines but at least you know now in case it happens again.

Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes swimmingly 😊
