To think fleas can't live in child's hair

I was washing dd hair yesterday in the shower and spotted a flea on the nape of her neck, I tried to pick it up but it hopped in her hair and then hopped in the bath and was hopping around until I washed it away with the shower.
Surely they can't be living in her hair?
We've never had any pets and never seen a flea here before.

Cat and dog fleas will live temporarily on humans. But it is a choice of last resort for them, and they will move onto their preferred host at the earliest opportunity. I would not worry if it was just one. It could have very easily hitched a lift on your child from someone else who does have pets. So I don't think any infestations are anything to be concerned about.

I used to work in an office where they were a real problem. Some of my colleagues with flea allergy used to really suffer. They got the exterminators in several times but they kept coming back, even though there were no animals on the premises.
