To think a 60mm depth desk is ok for a 24inch monitor?

Hello,

Posting here for traffic.

Looking for a new desk to accommodate a 24inch monitor while WFH. I have found one that is 140cm length by 60cm depth, but am worried that the screen will seem to close at that distance. Does anyone have a desk of those dimensions for a 24inch monitor?

IABU - you need minimum of 70cm
IANBU - 60cm is fine

Thank you!

My desk is 60cm with same size monitor. It's absolutely fine for me 😊

I have a 60cm wide desk with two 24” monitors on it and the distance to the screens is no problem. However, an extra few inches in front of them would be useful. The space feels a bit cramped at times.

That’s really helpful, thanks so much!

It may depend a bit on the design of the monitor stands. My desk is a bit bigger, the back of the bases of my 2 24" monitors are a little bit more than 60cm from the front of the desk.

Agree it depends on the type of monitor stand, if you can get the screen reasonably near the back of the desk I think it would be fine. 24” monitor isn’t particularly big- I’m using a 32” on this kind of desk no problem.

@SummerHoliday2023 way too close!! you will be living in headache city!! needs to be much further away than that. check out office supplies and look at the measurements of their desks/ a 24 inch monitor i would expect to need at least 6inches deeper than what the normal depth measurement is. more like725-750mm

I use a 60cm deep desk with a 27" monitor in the middle and two 24" monitors, one each side. It's absolutely fine, although I have monitor arms bolted to the desk which allow me to push the central one a bit further back than would normally be possible.

I have an 80cm width desk with a 24-inch iMac (6k) as my main device and a 32-inch 'side monitor' at an angle to one side (4k). 60cm would definitely be too close for me. I'm deeply envious of @ntmdino with a three-screen set-up; the iMac will only support one extra screen, I believe. But the high definition screens mean I can easily see text that's quite small.

...I was only talking about the main screens. I also have a 15.6" monitor up and to the right, just so I don't have to interrupt my workflow to look at incoming emails.

I'm a little obsessed with making my workspace as perfect as it can be - actually bought a couple of IKEA kitchen worktops, and built the desk to the wall in an "L" shape that's about 3m long on the main side, and 1.8m on the short side; having three large monitors side-by-side and two studio monitor speakers (above the side monitors) takes up a lot of space, so you really have to plan it. Monitor arms are an absolute must, otherwise you end up losing loads of useful space under the screens.

With that said, my 27" monitor is "only" 1440p - 4k is completely unnecessary at that range, in my opinion (for my uses and eyesight, at least). The side monitors are 1900x1200, because 1080p just isn't quite enough vertical pixels for me.

Great, thanks so much everyone - looks like I might have to go for a 70cm one after all…
