British
Irish
Indian OCI (PR in India)

New Zealand by birth, British through parentage and by living here since a child

chatenoire · 21/01/2024 18:40

British/Mexican/Israeli

Melassa · 21/01/2024 18:53

@Amy1998 You have piqued my interest. I see India has Ius Solis for citizenship. To obtain an OCI do you need to be resident?

chopinwaltz26 · 21/01/2024 18:54

British and and EU one

Pussygaloregalapagos · 21/01/2024 18:55

Only one but two other ‘Rights to reside’ bought from government of those respective countries.

Spidey66 · 21/01/2024 18:56

British by birth
Irish due to Irish parents.

letmeeatinpeace · 21/01/2024 19:28

EU
American < applying to give it up though, the taxes are ridiculous (I never even lived there!)

Borracha · 21/01/2024 19:43

British only. I’ve been living in the ME for 15 years but wouldn’t ever be entitled to citizenship. My kids were all born here and don’t qualify either, so they are British by descent.

No you don’t, just need to prove that your great grandparents, grand parents or parents were born in India

PopcornAndGummyBears · 21/01/2024 22:28

Irish by birth
British by birth (although don’t currently have valid UK passport and have no intention of renewing it. Don’t think I’m ready to officially rescind my citizenship but I don’t have much affiliation with Britain and have no desire for a passport)

DH has British (birth) and I think is entitled to Bangladeshi by descent, but has zero interest in claiming it. More likely to apply for Irish by naturalisation/marriage but has never got around to it. Some day…!

DC all have Irish and British by birth too, and I guess could claim Bangladeshi too but would never want to I don’t think. (They also only have valid Irish passports and no intention of renewing British for them)

p2312 · 21/01/2024 22:42

Indian- by birth
British- Naturalisation
Canadian

Jovacknockowitch · 21/01/2024 23:09

MooseBreath · 22/01/2024 12:12

Canadian.
My British citizenship will be finalized this year.
I could claim Israeli citizenship, but don't want to.

Aprilx · 22/01/2024 12:17

British by birth.
Australian by conferral after living there as permanent resident initially
entitled to Irish by birth but I have not applied for an Irish passport q

Dweetfidilove · 22/01/2024 12:20

Only British. I'd have to renounce British nationality to gain German citizenship. I live, work and pay taxes in Germany but my only vote is in UK general elections.

They’re changing it this year so you’ll be able to retain both and become a dual national

British by marriage
American by birth

AceOfCups · 22/01/2024 12:48

British
Australian
An EU Country

I'm entitled to another citizenship via my marriage, but it would bring me no advantages over what I already have (and possibly come with some disadvantages).

Fink · 22/01/2024 12:54

PinedApple · 21/01/2024 18:01

@Flatulence thank you! I'll look into it.

Worth noting that only children born to you after you acquire Irish citizenship will be able to get it (unless they qualify under some other route). And after that they can continue to pass it on for infinite generations as long as each generation takes Irish citizenship before they have children. Only applies for grandchildren of Irish grandparents onwards, if your own parents were born in Ireland then it's a much simpler process.

I have a friend who acquired Spanish citizenship through the law allowing people of Sephardic Jewish descent without residency requirements (which has since changed). That was quite cool, although obviously the history behind it isn't.

98percent · 22/01/2024 13:07

Just British but I could claim Israeli and Latvian citizenship if I wanted to.

JasperHale · 22/01/2024 13:21

European
Algerian
Could be British by naturalisation, but can't justify so much money for it, my european passport is worth more atm than British.

Jasmin1971 · 22/01/2024 13:24

British
Irish
Belgian

I’m not really fussed. Just Has to be somewhere warm, where he still has nice family - free accommodation for extended winter breaks 😀.
