Bloody frozen spinach!

I made a creamy bacon and mushroom pasta a few weeks ago which tastes weirdly of fish. I thought it must have been the bacon, and that it was off or something so I slung it.

Today, whilst cooking a roast, I thought I would use up leftover leeks and potatoes to make a soup. I put some frozen spinach in it and straight away the smell of fish hit me. Mystery solved, it wasn't the bacon, but the bloody spinach.

Has anyone ever experienced this? It's the frozen cube spinach and is still in date etc.

I used to use frozen cubes of spinach all the time in soups, stir fries etc until one day I put some in a stir fry and wondered why there was what I thought were tiny bits of elastic bands. I thought it was where that perhaps the spinach had been clumped together and tied with small elastic bands or something and the bands had partially disintegrated or something. Until they defrosted a bit and then I noticed they were little worms or weevils. Obviously dead but it took me years to be able to use frozen spinach again.

😱😱😱😱😱😱

I’ll make sure I use my frozen spinach in fish dishes only now.

I've never had this with frozen vegetables, but I always think frozen mango cubes taste quite fishy when they defrost. My daughter tells me they're fine if they're made into a smoothie from frozen.
