Picture attached
This redness has appeared on my daughter's leg seemingly from nowhere....
The redness is spreading, not been bitten, quite hot to touch and feels very hard.
Waiting to hear from doctors, but putting it out there whilst waiting
Thank you x

Oopsididitagaintomorrow · 21/01/2024 08:41

@Oxborn I have, nothing obvious showing.

It hasn't spread from yesterday so that's good. Going to keep an eye on it today and if no better I'll take her straight to the doctor tomorrow

Come on, show us photos of yourself and your family.

PriOn1 · 21/01/2024 09:11

The fact that it’s raised reminds me of urticaria. Hope the doctor can help, OP, though it’s probably not too serious if it still looks the same and hasn’t spread.

Let me guess... you are one of those "I say what I think, and if you don't like it you just can't handle the truth" type of people?!
Well here's some truth: that was absolutely uncalled for, unhelpful and cuntish.

OP- if you haven't already, draw a ring around the red area, and if it grows, A&E immediately.

You horrible cow

If it is cellulitis that is potentially serious. Cellulitis is associated with obesity (but not exclusively so). So the pp who mentioned that may have been tactless but was not wrong.
My friend who has a problem with her weight got cellulitis after an insect bite. She was ill for a long time with it.
Definitely get this checked out OP.

duckpancakes · 21/01/2024 09:23

I'd phone 111. A lot of them do video calls now so they can see it.

Mumof2teens79 · 21/01/2024 09:28

I have never heard cellulitis linked to obesity? Inactivity, poor circulation and poor immune system yes...which can occur with obesity, but that's not the case here.

It doesn't look nearly bad enough to be cellulitis. Yes cellulitis is serious and bites etc can turn into cellulitis but I wouldn't say it us anywhere near that.
Is it painful? Or more itchy? Or neither?

I have had bites previously that you really can't see at all so I suspect that....or just a bang or bump? I often scrape my hip on door handles sticking out...I should be more careful. Initially what you get is a red bump that is hot, before it bruises later.

Hot and red occurs with any sort of tissue damage that the body is trying to fix, not just infection. Whether a bump or a bite cold packs should help reduce swelling.

It's definitely spreading, it's now outside of the ring I drew. I've called 111 and waiting for a callback.
Just for those commenting re weight (nicely I might add), we are working on her weight, she is actually only 1st over weight, and most of it seems to be on her hips and legs, if you seen the rest of her its really not an issue. We are working on eating healthy. Being active isn't an issue as she quite active, she walks everyday, goes roller skating regularly, plays netball, is part of her school's cross country team and goes swimming 5 days a week.
That being said I am noting what you say and that's why I rung 111 x

Edited

Please ignore anyone being unkind. Some people are just idiots. I’m extremely slim (underweight for my height supposedly ) and yet I actually do carry some fat on my bum and thighs and I have horrific cellulite and I’ve been so upset by comments in the past people can be cruel. I hope your dd is better soon I def think she may have cellulitis I hope you can get her seen asap x

Nannyfannybanny · 21/01/2024 09:43

Have read your updates. Cellulitis is normally caused by bacterial infections entering deep tissue layers. Obesity inactivity never heard that one! I was nursing over 40 years, got it about 8 years ago. Mapped it like you (sensible) it was spreading fast. Went to my local ED, ,oral antibiotics and they said another hour I would have been admitted and IV antibiotics. I presume the nasty comments have been regarding cellulite. I had it at 8 stone, veggie very healthy lifestyle, found the only thing that worked was dry body brushing. Let us know how you get on.

Wetweatherandmud · 21/01/2024 10:12

DH has been hospitalised three times with the red area starting in the exact same area. There was no bite or mark on his skin every time. He is underweight, so obesity not a factor.

The important thing is to map the area's spread by drawing round the patch and putting the time on it.

He was given standard antibiotic treatment, which didn't work long term so the actual bug was identified (Strep B) and he was treated with IV antibiotics via a line in his chest.

OP, it's important for the bacteria to be identified as routine antibiotics risk a return of the infection.

Oopsididitagaintomorrow · 21/01/2024 10:15

Thank you for your kind comments @Bothcarers @Nannyfannybanny - the nasty comment touched a nerve I suppose.

We have an appointment with out of hours GP at 12:30. Will update once we've been seen x

Oxborn · 21/01/2024 12:53

You don't need to explain yourself regarding weight it's nothing to do with anyone you know what your doing in that area glad you have a appointment hope all is ok

Oopsididitagaintomorrow · 21/01/2024 13:50

She has an infection. Have antibiotics and we need to keep an eye on it to make sure swelling and redness is reducing, if no different in a couple of days we're to come back.x

uncomfortablydumb53 · 21/01/2024 14:30

I'm glad she has antibiotics now
I was going to suggest cellulitis
I hope it clears up soon
