Estate Agent contacted via LinkedIn

Honestly not sure if I'm out of touch but I thought this was strange...

Last summer we saw a house for sale in an area we want to move to, we didn't have ours on the market yet so we hastily put it up but didn't sell in time and there wasn't anything else so we took it off with plans to get ours up to scratch then try again (it needs repainting, a proper declutter etc)

This week I got a message on LinkedIn from a name I don't know "Hi, I've been keeping an eye on your lovely property on Rightmove for a while and I noticed you'd taken it off" then another message today "I understand you were thinking of moving, is that still your intention"

I've checked his profile and he isn't listed as working for the EA we used and we didn't deal with him at the time.

I'm assuming he's keeping an eye on properties that might be put back in the market, found the owners names on the electoral role and used that to find me on LinkedIn - all perfectly legal of course but seems a really strange way to go about it.

Obviously we've had leaflets and letters through the door from other estate agents but that was expected, part of me admires the ingenuity but it still seems a bit odd as I'm not even active on LinkiedIn?

Don't think it's strange. LinkedIN is one of the easier ways to track people down. But I'd treat him like any other cold caller. ie ignore him.

Also don't think it's that strange. I'm fairly active on LinkedIn and I'm always surprised by the cold callers and direct mails I get from businesses I've not had contact with for years. It's a well-known sales tool and seen as a professional platform to do just that with.

Ah fair enough, it appears I'm out of touch then!

I'll ignore 😊

I honestly don't think anyone really uses LinkedIn anymore unless they are trying to sell something, or they are a recruiter. I used to use it for my research career a lot.
EAs are notoriously harrass-y seeming aren't they, just ignore it. He's desperate for a commission obviously. I guess it's a good sign that your home is appealing to them, might make the sale easier in future.
Might be worth actively avoiding his firm when you do go to market again as his style is a bit pushy.

I dont agree
I re-activated my profile yesterday for a very specific purpose- was intended to be for a couple of days
Have had dozens of people asking to connect (all sectors relevant and about 70% I know)

Very much not true its widely used for networking and job searching. House selling not so much!
