Costco birthday cakes, can someone help?

So sorry!! Posting here for traffic 🥺 but does anyone here have any experience with Costco birthday cakes? I’ve had a nightmare with my child’s birthday party, and it’s had to be brought forward a week (this weekend) and I’ve just signed up to Costco so we can get one of their birthday cakes as the baker I had originally wanted to go with, can’t cater to the date change.

The party is Sunday and I can only collect the cake tomorrow; does anyone know if the dates on them stretch to 3 days? I can’t find any of the information anywhere x

You know it won't be a custom cake as they won't have enough time to do it? But I wouldn't be writing any the cake laying, they are 99.9% sugar and artificial glamorous so they will probably be fine in a month, never mind 3 days. My children all love them for their birthdays but they are v v sickly sweet and artificial tasting.

  • wouldn't be worried about the cake lasting

I ordered one last week to collect Friday 12th. It came dated best before 16th

Yeah I know ☹️ timing isn’t right. I just looked at local cakes and things and for the number we need, it’s almost £50 so thought a Costco pre-made one would be a sufficient size (and I can benefit from the membership for a year too 😂)

The Costco ones are fine for ages, I've had a few over the year, yes they are sweet and sickly, but they fit the purpose and seem to stay fresh a long time

Crumpleton · 18/01/2024 12:28

I've bought a few of their large rectangular birthday cakes and still been eating them days later. As long as you leave the packaging on and keep it stored somewhere cool it should be fine.
I've also frozen portions of these cakes

I've just had a look at the Costco UK forum page and many say they're fine, as one says the icing will protect the sponge from drying out.

Oh god @greasypolemonkeyman 😭😂 yeah I don’t know why I’m surprised by the ingredients seeing as it’s American. Ah well, I’m going to risk it for the party. Thank you for all the info! ❤️

also thank you @1992H that’s helpful. If I pick up a ready made (not pre-ordered) one on the 19th I’m hoping the date will be past the 21st? 🤞🏻

Really? Ok this is good. Thank you so much. Off to Costco I go tomorrow then 🤞🏻

I had a slice of one last week and I thought it was really nice
It was a plain one - jam and 'cream'
Yes the cream was fake but it tasted like marshmallow (which I preferred!)
I thought it was less sweet than the shop bought birthday cakes

Rocknrollstar · 18/01/2024 13:11

We ordered a cake from Costco and they personalised it

OnceUponATimeInChristmasTime · 18/01/2024 13:28

They'll last for ages. They're perfect for kids parties and great value.

Catza · 18/01/2024 13:29

We love Costco bakery and never had issues with it not lasting or being particularly artificially-tasting. Except for their brownies, we weren't impressed with them.

scaredofff · 18/01/2024 13:29

They are delicious!
My lovely NDN gets one for all her family's birthdays and sends some over to us - yummy!!

WinterSnowFox · 18/01/2024 13:30

Yes I think that would be fine. I would still eat it!

CissOff · 18/01/2024 13:32

We had one for DD many years ago and it was actually decent. Yes, it’s pretty artificial but I didn’t mind it at all.

As pps have said, the endless buttercream/icing stops the cake from drying out!

Cismyfatarse · 18/01/2024 13:36

We left one in the staff room at school for 7 weeks and it was not mouldy. A web of chemicals flavoured with sugar..,..but delicious.
