I think I ovulated on day 14 of my cycle. It’s been a busy month so we only managed to try on day 9, and again on day 14 - which I’m 90% sure was ovulation day.

I think it’s best to try when you see the peak OPK result, which I saw about 12 hours before / on the evening of day 13.

Is my chance to conceive reduced this month?

Just bumping for advice

I am incredibly shit at this - I have a period app for this reason (I used Clue, found it very helpful both times I was TTC).

I think it depends on length of cycle though, which is individual.

Usually 29 days. I just don’t know if ovulation day is too late to conceive

I don't know about apps but I used the 'visual egg white discharge method' to work out my ovulation day and had sex every day 2-3 days before so sperm was waiting. Sperm can live for up to 7 days in the female reproductive tract.

Not too late!

Hope you’re right! Xx

The egg hangs around for 12-24 hours after ovulation. More efficient if sperm is already there but nothing to say it can’t be fertilised in that time.

Panastasia · 17/01/2024 18:13

IIRC ovulation occurs 14 days before the first day of your next cycle. So if you have a 29 day cycle, you’ll ovulate on day 15. I have a 31 day cycle, and once I found this out, I got pregnant with a couple of months, after trying to 6 months.

Thanks. I didn’t know it was seven days

As a biologist, if your cycle follows the regular pattern (by far not all do!) then both instances of sex could have led to successful fertilisation. As has already pointed out, sperm can live up to 7 days in favourable conditions (which usually only exist around ovulation) and the egg cell typicall "lives" for a day or so after ovulation.

Anecdotally, I have got pregnant every instance of unprotected sex on my ovulation day (3 times).

Thank you. This is reassuring

Just about possible - sperm live for 5 days and egg for only about 24 hours.
So you could have either just about caught the dying sperm in time with a fresh egg or caught a dying egg in time with fresh sperm.
Definitely in with a chance.

I really hope so
