Colleague stealing my noodles

doitinadayswork · 17/01/2024 09:52

And replacing them the following day with a pot noodle

The noodles in question are a Korean brand, very tasty. You can actually get them in B&M

I have a colleague who takes my noodles if I hadn't had time to stop and eat that day

And she replaced them the following morning with a pot noodle (argh).

I told my manager who said we like to 'give and take' in this department and was it really such a huge deal? Angry I said she isn't replacing what I got though

AIBU here? What on earth do I do? She isn't one to cross, the thief. She is quite vocal and a higher band who could make me miserable if she so chose to do so

theyre being unreasonable but I suppose it depends how far you want to take it. I’d try and keep it in a bag, stick a label on saying please don’t eat, empty it into a Tupperware so it looks less appetising. Then I’d explain to my manager that I want it dealt with or I want a locker or somewhere to keep my belongings safe.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/01/2024 10:31

Is this a regular thing or did it just happen once? If the latter, I can't believe you went to your manager about it.

As others have said, keep food with you or label it. Where I work, it's all hotdesking, none of us have desks or lockers so you have to put stuff in a communal break.out area or keep it with you. I've never had anything nicked.

MadamVastra · 17/01/2024 10:33

We had someone take the robinsons hi juice and replace it with lidl

the cheek

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 17/01/2024 10:35

She's taking the piss and your manager is a useless sap who is scared of her.

Yes to extremely hot chilli powder to teach her a lesson. She can't complain because it's your food and you just fancied it being a bit spicier today 😉 Of course what a good job there's a spare packet in your drawer for you!

Nonimai · 17/01/2024 10:46

Im not a noodle expert, but I think she is replacing your noodles with what, inher head, is a better, more expensive option. I would just buy several packs of noodles, put them in your shared space, tell her you like those (from b and m), not Pot Noodle and tell her she is welcome to help herself and just replace like for like what she eats. Oh and still keep a pack in your desk in case she is an arsehole and eats them all.

Anisette · 17/01/2024 10:47

Tell us more about these noodles, they sound good.

MorrowwindC · 17/01/2024 10:51

if it was me, keep the supply hidden, that said its still wrong to just take

heldinadream · 17/01/2024 10:53

Sorry OP but you just made me go watch this and now I have to post it on your thread.

Your manager is normalising theft.

You're really that soft?! 🤦‍♀️

Balloonhearts · 17/01/2024 10:57

Lock them in your locker if you have one or in your car boot. Or your handbag. Then go nuts if she goes through your bag and raise a grievance as she was stealing.

mindutopia · 17/01/2024 10:57

Naga chillies.

mindutopia · 17/01/2024 10:59

But really, I would write in big permanent pen on the top with your name and 'DO NOT EAT!' and/or put them in your desk.

Tothemoonandbackx · 17/01/2024 11:01

Stick a note on saying 'Not your Noodles' it's easy to say that she shouldn't be putting them where people can steal them, but why should she have to put them in her bag or locker, why can't the thief just, you know, not steal her stuff.

Knittedfairies2 · 17/01/2024 11:01

Yeah, you need a noodle bag.

FuckKnowsMate · 17/01/2024 11:01

The fact you've allowed this to happen on more than one occasion (from the sounds of what you've written), instead of just keeping the noodles in your bag after she stole them the first time, is bizarre tbh.

GasPanic · 17/01/2024 11:03

Wait til your manager is at their desk. Spy out something that looks good, march up and take it.

When they say "hey what are you doing" say "we like to give and take in this department" and ask them whether it's such a huge deal.

Or alternatively just buy a lockable box and lock up your stuff.

Anisette · 17/01/2024 11:05

mindutopia · 17/01/2024 10:57

Naga chillies.

Now, that's a brilliant idea.

SD1978 · 17/01/2024 11:06

How often has this happened? Do other people get their food taken? Is it only taken if it's still there at the end if the day, or has this occurred during the working day? Simplest answer, is keep them in your bag. They are noodles. Second answer, tell her you don't like the ones she's replacing them with, and you get them specifically. Third answer would be a formal complaint if you really wanted, as she's stealing your food and your manager is being a limp noodle about it.....

Doyoumind · 17/01/2024 11:06

Who are all these people who have a locker? I've worked for years and have never had one. I don't have drawers either as we hot desk.

Keep your lunch in your bag OP.

MeridianB · 17/01/2024 11:08

I told my manager who said we like to 'give and take' in this department

Great. I'd 'give' the Pot Noodle and 'take' the manager's lunch.

Pjmaskmummy · 17/01/2024 11:09

I'd keep them with you. Also off topic but I have a massive pregnancy craving - which noodles are they please?

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 17/01/2024 11:09

Laxative 😉

DRS1970 · 17/01/2024 11:09

Just find somewhere that stocks laxatives. I am just saying to find a shop that sells laxatives. I am not telling you to put the laxatives in your noodles or anything like that. Just commenting for a friend... 🙃

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 17/01/2024 11:10

@DRS1970 wicked minds think alike 😂
