Parcel sent to wrong address, what can I do????

Rockmehardplace · 15/01/2024 23:52

A relative kindly bought me an expensive item for xmas and had it posted to my house. Except she got the street name wrong (think “east high street” instead of “high street”). There was a photo of my parcel being left at the doorstep of that address. I’ve been to ask the occupant and they are denying all knowledge of my parcel.

does anyone have any idea as to what I could do in this situation?? I feel bad that relative has wasted her money plus I would like my parcel!!!

Sorry, didn’t mean to put poll on. I guess

YABU - it was relatives mistake, forget about parcel
YANBU - try again to chase it up

Keep chapping the door asking where it is. They will soon get sick of you and pass it over

Maryamlouise · 16/01/2024 00:00

It presumably could have been stolen from doorstep if the photo is just it outside a closed door. I think you will have to ask your relative to contact the seller and explain it didn't arrive and request they sort it.

But it did arrive. At the address the relative gave. So why is it anyone else’s responsibility and why should anyone else foot the bill?

Also, the OP’s relative could have posted it herself so what seller are you talking about?

BobbyBiscuits · 16/01/2024 13:07

My relative sent me something but her writing was so poor it never arrived (she has parkinsons). Sad, but you won't get the parcel unless she re-buys it. If the photo shows it outside a locked door, then the occupants may well have never seen it and it was pinched. I would think twice before mentioning it as it might be upsetting for her, and it might sound like you are blaming her for putting the wrong address.

Ktime · 16/01/2024 13:08

Was the postcode correct?

Did she send it Signed for or standard post?

mindutopia · 16/01/2024 13:10

It sounds like it went to the correct address on the parcel, which means there is no recourse with the courier. You've already asked the occupants. If you have a community Facebook group, I would post on there with the photo of the parcel at the house and ask if anyone has your parcel which was misdelivered (you don't need to go into details about why). It may be enough of a name and shame to get the occupants feeling panicky and want to cough up the parcel if they have it. I know our town Facebook group is ruthless when it comes to tracking down lost parcels.

How can the address be correct if the postcode doesn’t match the street name?

Unless there is No post code I suppose.

notmorezoom · 16/01/2024 13:25

If it was sent directly from the seller and they made the mistake, they should send another.

If your relative gave them the wrong address, or she posted it herself, you've got no recourse.

Ihaterhymingrabbit · 16/01/2024 13:38

This is simple, if the photo is of it on the doorstep with the door open and the home owner receiving it then you won’t get any compensation as it’s been delivered.

If it’s just on the closed doorstop then it hasn’t been delivered, it could easily have been stolen, tell your relative to say it’s been taken and not delivered.

Rockmehardplace · 16/01/2024 18:25

Thanks, the picture was on a closed doorstep within a block of flats. It was delivery by Royal Mail special delivery I think.

Rockmehardplace · 16/01/2024 18:27

It was my relative who gave the wrong address, not a mistake by the company, though the postcode was slightly wrong for the address it was delivered to, I guess it was close enough,

HappyHamsters · 16/01/2024 18:28

Unfortunately it was sent to the wrong address, maybe put a note up on the block to ask if anyone has seen it, if it was special delivery did it need a signature.

Lots of people put the wrong postcode (or no postcode) on addresses. When the street address and postcode don't match, Royal Mail prioritise the street address - it just makes the sorting process a bit harder for them. We have relatives who either don't bother putting postcodes, or put completely incorrect ones (think, putting a Glasgow postcode when we live in the SE of England) - we still get cards from them.

hmmm it could be a police matter if the parcel has been stolen off the doorstep, is there cctv?

Your relative should open a missing parcel case with Royal Mail and say no one signed for the parcel and it wasn’t delivered to an actual person or post box.

Rockmehardplace · 18/01/2024 22:01

No cctv, I’ve asked my relative to open a missing parcel case, thanks.

I actually think it’s a bit shady to claim for a missing parcel when your relative gave the wrong address in the first place. It’s been delivered to the intended address, which due to their ordering, just wasn’t yours.

OP is saying it was delivered to a doorstep. Unless doorstep has been agreed as a safe place with the buyer then the parcel has not been delivered correctly and it has been stolen.

If the parcel has entered the correct property on the address then it has been delivered and OP can’t say it is missing.

There are two issues here, 1 that it has the wrong address and 2 that it has been delivered to a doorstep. Just because the sender has put the wrong address doesn’t mean they aren’t entitled to claim it as missing if it hasn’t been entirely delivered.

It's insured if it's special delivery I think?

Hotttchoc · 09/06/2024 08:18

Did you get your parcel @Rockmehardplace ?

Sent parcel to wrong address put Kipling Way instead of Kipling Road. How do I find it.Do I contact sorting office as can't remember if I put senders address on back

Doingtheboxerbeat · 03/09/2024 01:58

I don't care if it was delivered to a different town, leaving packages on the doorstep without consent is just asking for trouble - not everyone lives in nice apartment blocks or neighbourhoods.
I would definitely get the sender to put in a claim on that basis alone.

nwsw · 03/09/2024 03:52

Tbh you can't do anything really.

I'd write a letter to the occupants explaining that it was a gift from a relative and you are so upset they made an innocent mistake.

Include photo.

Ask them if they could do the right thing and help you locate the parcel as it was clearly delivered to their house. Could they:

Check their house again.
Check any ring cameras.
Advise them that you will approach neighbors for ring camera footage to see if the parcel was collected.
Ask them to speak to all residents.

patriciageorge · 03/09/2024 11:56

It's been received. The people who lived at the wrong address delivered it for me.Honest people in the world
