Evri delivery

This morning I received a text at 6.52am (which buzzed and I saw straight away) saying I’d missed the delivery and would need to rearrange on the app. I went to do this and they wanted to charge me a delivery fee on top of what I’ve already paid for delivery.

Firstly, delivery before 7am is not okay, surely?

Secondly, there’s 5 in our house. I was awake at 6.50am as I’d heard dd1 (16) get up 5 minutes earlier and go downstairs. The delivery driver did not knock loud enough for us to hear - even the dog stayed snoring on my bed. If you’re delivering that early you need to knock loudly?

dh wfh so deliveries are never usually an issue.

AIBU to think delivering before 7am without prior warning is not normal? (For context, we’re not in a commuter town where people leave early for London).

Yes, data breach sound likely.

mynameiscalypso · 15/01/2024 11:00

It's more than likely coincidence. They'll send out thousands and thousands of these emails and the likelihood is that any number of their potential victims will be receiving an Evri parcel that day or have ordered something online which might be delivered soon. But I agree with a PP that it would be wise to change your passwords.

sashagabadon · 15/01/2024 11:04

It’s definitely a scam and I doubt a data breach. I think the scammers send thousands of text messages and a tiny percentage are actually expecting an evri delivery so can be fooled.
it’s a numbers game scam

Sk8erboi · 15/01/2024 11:05

It's a coincidence and they send them on the off chance that you're expecting a parcel.
Thankfully you haven't paid it.
I've had 2 of those texts this week

DelurkingLawyer · 15/01/2024 11:11

It’s still a scam even though you were expecting a parcel. So many people have Evri deliveries each day that they know they’ll catch someone.

TeenLifeMum · 15/01/2024 11:15

Thanks all. I’m usually quite savvy… maybe not at 6.52am, which is what they likely count on. At least this thread can raise awareness for others. Many thanks again!
I’ve changed my email password just in case.

The url is the clue - the text before .com is the real website. You can basically put anything before it to make it look legit - always look at what is just before the .com. Any real Evri url would end evri.com, so would be 'redelivery-evri.com'.

Basically, be ultra cautious when anything is asking for money - double check all the urls have the correct ending, go to the website yourself rather than clicking on links, check for spelling/grammar mistakes ('please fill the form below' for example...). Websites that only allow you to enter card details (so no option to pay using paypal/google pay etc) would make me suspicious too.

They are designed to catch you out. Early in the morning so you're half asleep and could have feasibly missed the knock on the door. Relying on most people expecting a delivery at some point (because the majority of people order stuff regularly..). Looks legitimate at first glance. Amount being asked for is v. small so whilst frustrating might not make you as careful as if it was a larger amount.

TeenLifeMum · 15/01/2024 11:16

I’ve never actually had a scam text on this phone. Assume I’ll get lots now 😩

Defo scam. I get at least one of these via email a day

you can forward any spam text to 7726

BoohooWoohoo · 15/01/2024 11:31

I’m glad that you didn’t pay. It’s clearly a scam but I might have not been so on the ball at 7am in the morning.

Evri deliver a lot of parcels and many people don’t realise that they’ve been scammed because Evri redeliver their parcel and they assume it’s because of the fee paid.

Always go to the official website and track your parcel from there. Takes longer but delivery scams like this are super common and my money is mine.

spiderlight · 15/01/2024 11:45

Definite scam. I've had this twice over the weekend, very early both mornings. Must be a new tactic to trick people when they're half-asleep.

Peaton · 15/01/2024 11:45

Scam

Peaton · 15/01/2024 11:47

You get a card through your door anyway saying that they will try again

Parentofeanda · 15/01/2024 11:53

Its not even there Website URL.

ohtowinthelottery · 15/01/2024 12:16

DH got one of these once which also, by coincidence, was on a day he was expecting a parcel. We were suspicious though and didn't act on it. Lo and behold his parcel turned up later with the Evri driver. When I mentioned to him he said it was quite common and gave me a card with his number on and said we could always check with him if we weren't sure (we've had the same Evri delivery person for many years).

HellsToilet · 15/01/2024 12:26

You probably don't get many scam texts as your phone has a good spam filter. Go and have a look at the spam text section, it's eye opening!

There is one glaringly obvious part of it that proves it's a scam and that's the VAT... 20% of £1.04 is NOT 41p! That's 40%.

But don't fret, they could get anyone that time of the morning!

TeenLifeMum · 15/01/2024 12:49

@HellsToilet oh yes! My maths isn’t up to scratch pre coffee 😂

Evri are absolutely crap and often will send messages about a failed delivery when they haven't even been near the address. I know this because it's happened to me several times and no way on earth did they even knock on my door.

This. Am stuck in this limbo myself at the moment. Very fed up.

Appreciate that your message was a scam one, but Evri are still rubbish. If they would tell me they used Evri I would avoid.

Hiddenvoice · 15/01/2024 13:51

This is strange you’ve posted this. I’ve got 2 emails- one from the genuine Evri saying they are awaiting my parcel and one from a fake Evri saying I’ve missed delivery and need to follow a link to rebook. I’ve not clicked the link as I always check the email sender address and I know it’s not Evri.
strange though that this has happened, seems like Evri might have been hacked.

Evri haven't been hacked. It's just the scammers send out hundreds of thousands of these every day. They are likely to catch people that have an evri order.

TeenLifeMum · 15/01/2024 14:29

Cynical me thinks Evri staff could easily make money on the side “leaking” lists of names, emails/numbers and dates.

Apparently some people create new version of your email addresses for each thing they sign up to - you can do it with gmail where it still comes to your normal inbox - I think you just put a + at the beginning of your email address. So if your email is '[email protected]', when you sign up to Boots, you create an account with '[email protected]'. Makes no difference to you as it all comes in to your normal gmail account, but if you get spam or scam emails, you can see which version of your address it has been sent to, and that will then tell you which company has sold off/compromised/leaked your details... I'm very tempted to start doing it!
