Anyone else have zero motivation?

Is it because it’s January and cold, dull & rainy, is it my age-46…I just feel so flat and zero motivation to do anything, I’m especially finding it so hard to go to/do any work, excruciatingly hard. I’m usually ok and just get on with things, which is what I’m doing as I have no other choice, but it’s so mhard push harder recently, anyone else?
I have a young daughter and am trying to stay jolly for her

Yes I am fucked.

moggerhanger · 15/01/2024 08:39

I'm a couple of years older than you. And I have absolutely no motivation or energy at the moment. Struggling to concentrate on anything complicated as well. It's probably my age 🙄

declutteringmymind · 15/01/2024 08:39

Yup. Can only offer solidarity

jakesmommy · 15/01/2024 08:45

I have an underactive thyroid and fibromyalgia so know how you feel constantly.

I am late 50’s and feel the same. I feel slightly better on a brighter day even if its bitterly cold. But the long damp dark days are hard work. I couldn’t face doing dry January and really need to loose weight but my mojo has gone and I feel really irritated by people telling me they are either doing dry January, being good, going to the gym and or have lost X amount already.

I booked a holiday this weekend which helped and we had some friends round for a meal last night which forced me to properly clean and tidy downstairs (I hated doing it but feel better for it). I just have to face properly cleaning and tidying upstairs this week as we have visitors staying at the weekend.

Mercychant · 15/01/2024 08:56

Yes. I don't think it is my age because I have been like this for decades.

foxfoxohmyfox · 15/01/2024 09:13

I hear you OP. I am late 40's. Zero motivation/energy/focus/cannot be bothered.

@ToothFairy2023 yes yes yes to everyone else going on about dry Jan/gym/they have already lost 10 stone since Jan 1st. Oh shut the F up and f off. Yes I want to do all these things but my mojo pissed off 2 weeks ago and has not been seen since. I did manage a huge cleaning blitz on saturday. I had previously been struggling to keep on top (and I am usually the sort who goes to the depths of hoovering their cutlery drawer out) but I FORCED myself to do it. I feel so much better this morning for it. More on top of things again. I somehow (miracle) managed to drag my sorry overweight ass out of bed early this morning too and emptied the dishwasher/had the car defrosted and warm ready for the school run/cooked breakfast (unheard of) and was at my desk ahead of time. This is unheard of for me. Now I just need to find some - any - motivation to actually do some work. I worry I am going to get spoken to by my manager if I carry on procrastinating/coasting/doing f all.

Sending energy & motivational vibes to you all

I can’t afford to have zero motivation tbh: I am the main breadwinner in my household.

hairbearbunches · 15/01/2024 09:24

I read some good advice over Christmas in relation to resolutions. Seems to be working for me. If you see something that needs doing and you’re confident it’s only going to be a 2 minute job, just do it there and then. It’s a tiny little change from seeing something and thinking ‘I’ll do it later’ and it has made a difference to the general tidiness of our house, which then makes a difference to how you feel in general. I’ve been doing it now for a couple of weeks and the cleaning /tidying element of life is almost taking care of itself because you don’t notice how much of it you’re doing by doing a 2 minute job here and there every day. Sorry if that comes across as glib advice, I’m ‘enjoying’ menopause so completely get the no motivation thing. This has genuinely helped me.

Mercychant · 15/01/2024 09:38

I am the only earner. I can still have no motivation.

PiggieWig · 15/01/2024 09:40

Yep, sold earner here too and absolutely done in. I’ve just turned 47 and I’m done with it all. I quite fancy a gap year.

FMLWTF · 15/01/2024 09:42

None whatsoever. When anyone suggests doing anything I just think, oh god, do we have to? I’m 46 and also suspect it’s an age thing. So much life admin and caring to be done - on top of earning a living - I’ve no energy for “fun”. Sad really. I frequently think most of us are living wrong and wasting our time on this earth just keeping afloat. Fantasise about packing it all in and moving to a desert island but then - I probably couldn’t be bothered 😆

I think this is so true... if procrastination was an Olympic sport I would be world famous.. there are so many jobs (both chores and 'proper work') that I keep putting off which are genuinely 5 minutes, and I then find myself in some kind of paralysis because I don't know which one to do first.

I found myself in a proper funk last night because I had wasted yet another weekend doing absolutely nothing, when even if I wasn't doing enjoyable things I could at least have cracked on with some chores and made this week less stressful.

superplumb · 15/01/2024 11:27

Yep 45 wfh. I sometimes just stare at my emails and need to find a huge amount of energy to muster a reply. I'm not even sure I can blame Jan. I've felt like this for months.

foxfoxohmyfox · 15/01/2024 20:08

After this mornings motivation, I then got into a funk. Sat starting at my work/PC all day. No motivation/stamina for the gym tonight. Currently slumped on the sofa trying to find the energy to load the dishwasher
