To be worried about Butlins?!

I’ve booked a few nights at Butlins in May - I used to go as a kid.

Last night I saw on their website that part of the pool in closed which was the main thing we were going for so I checked the trip advisor reviews to see if anyone mentioned it - OMG the reviews!! They were so bad they were actually funny! One person saying that the people who go there are tough as toast and it’s not unusual for parents to be calling their kids “little cunt” etc - kids running around absolutely feral, people queuing for 6pm entertainment from 2pm - everywhere smells of urine - half the rides don’t work - the accommodation is like a run down council flat - WTF have I done!

Anyone been recently and can tell me it’s not this bad?

What type of accommodation have you booked? Might be worth upgrading if you can afford to. We’ve stayed in the gold chalets at Bognor a few times and they’re basic but clean- going again in April as my son absolutely loves it- more of a Centerparcs girl myself, but the entertainment is fantastic for families. Some diehards really do queue up for well over an hour before the show to get good seats. However, as long as you’ve booked there’s really no need to queue as you will be guaranteed entry. We pay a bit extra for vip bands which meant we don’t need to worry too much about that.

We went to one of their under 5 weeks a few years ago, we had the most expensive accommodation and let’s just say I’m glad we didn’t go for the cheapest if that was the most expensive. Being an under 5 week it was ok but definitely eye opening 🤣 maybe consider one of those! I wouldn’t go for a normal week/weekend.

Other than that, stick to Centerparcs.

The accommodation is what it is - a bed to sleep in. There is so much fun to be had in just having fun (and shit hair). It's great...embrace it and you'll have a massively great time.

i nearly won at laser quest vs a 5yr old but i let her win in the end.

have fun and go to bed at 9:45 x

Just realised this is a Zombie thread! 🧟‍♀️

What snobbery here! I don't get it. People here think the sun shines out of centre parks bottom here, despite it being objectively shite, and are massively snobbish about Butlins.

I have been several times to Butlins Bognor Regis. I loved it and it is my kids favourite holiday ever.

For accommodation the hotel is very reasonable. I stayed once and the hotel wasn't available so we stayed in regular rooms and they were fine and spotlessly clean.

The shows are amazing, really top tier entertainment. Minimal queues, though I did spend a little for the VIP passes.

The pool was great: hours each day there. Fairground was fun too, as were the paid/free other activities.

Only slight disappointment was the dining package: next time may self cater.

It is so incredibly cheap: £59 (total) for 4 nights for 4 people!

We go to the Bognor one and stay in the wave hotel which is absolutely fine. Kids really enjoy it too.

Why shit hair?

Royalbloo · 23/01/2026 21:17

I love having shit hair at Butlins x

We stayed in the Minehead one last year, in a comfort plus apartment. We had fun and the kids loved it but my god it was filthy!

I don’t have particularly high standards but I was shocked. Everywhere was so dirty!

I’ve enjoyed many weekends at Skegness Butlin’s. Clean, comfortable, friendly and unbelievably cheap. DH and I loved it.

But why is your hair shit at Butlin’s?

yoyoynot · 23/01/2026 21:28

It's a few years ago since we went to Butlins (Skegness). Both sons are neurodivergent and we went because everything was in one place, it felt safe and I would be on my own with our sons. We had a really good time. There was a private beach as well, which was usually quiet, so the boys could regulate. Bike rides along the Lincolnshire coast were great, and the organised activities were good.

We went in the summer, so there was more we could do outdoors, but it was affordable, and not too far for us to travel.

Royalbloo · 23/01/2026 21:34

Haha because there I don't give a shiny shit what I look like for a change. It's freeing. Plus, the hairdryers are shit!

are you ok?

Royalbloo · 23/01/2026 21:35

Chill out!

Eminybob · 23/01/2026 21:36

Ah ok I was trying to work out if you had the same problem l as me, my hair is always shit at Butlin’s but I think it’s the water. It’s the same when I go on a caravan holiday. Admittedly a rather niche problem, I thought I had found a kindred spirit 🤣

Royalbloo · 23/01/2026 21:44

Hahah washing your hair in a bath is a nightmare. Plus a crap hairdryer. Plus windy Minehead weather just means I look like shit.

but when I'm at Butlins I seem to not give a shit x Love it
