To not send her to nursery..

We’ve had a letter to day D&V is going round my daughter’s nursery. She only goes 1 day a week, if she doesn’t go I still have to pay £55 for her place, and I’ll lose £100 in a days wage on top of that. Also my son is in year 2 and I think it’s going round his year too.

Would you still send her.. or lose the money? I mean I don’t know what to do.

Send her. You can't shield her from every single bug. The chances are she will pick the really disgusting ones up when you're least expecting it.

I would send her. If it is going round your son’s year too, she might catch it that way regardless of whether she is in nursery or not.

PriOn1 · 13/01/2024 22:58

I’d probably just wait and see if she gets it, given that it could still be going round in another week’s time. Pretty unpleasant waiting though. Is there nobody else who could look after her for the day so you don’t lose your wage?

I'm really emetophobic (vomiting phobia) and on all my emetophobia groups they are saying not to send her. But I can only really have 1 week off and it's probably going to go round until at least March?
I know I can tell DS to wash his hands as he's older but he might still get it from school.
I wish I could hide them both inside all winter!

I always keep my dc off of d and v is going round either class or nursery but I don’t work so i can see how it would be a hard decision for you . My dc have other conditions too which complicate illnesses so if your dc are otherwise well they might be ok 🤞

BananaSplitsss · 13/01/2024 23:01

I would keep her off. Absolutely.

dottiedodah · 13/01/2024 23:04

I would not send her .d and v is grim ! Maybe see if leave her with friend or family or take a day off

whoactuallyreallycares · 13/01/2024 23:04

I’m emetephobic and I would keep my son off if I knew it was going round. I know it’s a possibility at any time but it’s different actually knowing! I’d rather lose the money than have the crippling anxiety of ‘what if’ let alone the fear and anxiety it would cause if they actually did catch it. Totally understand how you feel.

ShoePalaver · 13/01/2024 23:07

I'd send her in and take the risk. Mine have never caught d and v and other children in their groups have had it. Plus surely your work won't give you time off for this?

Mariposistaa · 13/01/2024 23:19

What would the therapist treating you for your emetophobia suggest? Because given you have 2 young kids I guess you are seeking treatment. A key part of motherhood is being able to cae for your kids if/when they are unwell.

We are still recovering from the D&V bug we picked late last week. No fun! That said I’d send her. Last year this time it went around and by some miracle we didn’t get it. This time we got it last week/ over the weekend so wasn’t due to nursery (nursery only reopened this Monday after the winter break and we were already feeling off). Probs was during grocery shopping.

NannyR · 13/01/2024 23:30

I would send her - the fact that the nursery have identified that there is a bug going round would (hopefully) mean that they are going to be extra hot on hygiene, handwashing and strictly excluding sick children.
