Pipes, water, plumbing - they can all sod off!

I've got 30 people arriving tomorrow for a rare and long arranged family get together for a special birthday. So of course, this afternoon was the ideal time to discover that the downpipe from the bathroom (I think) is leaking somewhere in the wall and pooling under the floor/wall of the dining room.

A completely different problem caused a leak elsewhere last year. AIBU to think that fucking plumbing is the most ridiculous and frustrating thing ever!? 😩

The temptation to take a sledgehammer to the wall to try and see what's going on is real, but I'm resisting so far... 😆 A house full of people with part of the kitchen wall missing, floor pulled up, and (if I'm really lucky..!) an emergency plumber trying to fix it has got to be worse than a house full of people and only one working loo right!? Ugh.

I'd attempt to have the down pipe leak looked at asap, but if it helps, I've had an event with 28 people and only one loo - and it wasn't as bad as you think!

The bathroom door didn't have a lock on it, either, so that was the worst bit.

I had a blocked kitchen sink drain about an hour ahead of hosting a kids’ birthday party + sleepover. I feel your pain.

Plumbing can get in the fucking bin.

I currently have a half destroyed bathroom where plumber had to hack through tiles to find a damaged pipe. I concur, plumbing is the worst.

TroisCroissants · 12/01/2024 16:50

We've got a plumber lined up for Monday anyway. Various handy sorts will be here tomorrow so I'll take advice on how best to access this pipe with minimal unnecessary damage to anything else in this awkward corner and will do that on Sunday morning. If it is even more drastic than I think, I'll try and get the very jolly (I would be too at those prices!) bloke who sorted out our last leak as an emergency round on Sunday.

Oh noo! That sounds really really annoying (and expensive ☹️)

Our shower is temperamental and the shower head in the corner of the bath is broken, but we can't fix them without destroying the bathroom tiles and all sorts of faff. Honestly, there's got to be a better way!

The worst part is the reason for the damaged pipe - Rats! They chewed through it. So now have that to deal with too. Honestly think at this point I'd rather live in a camper van.

Rats in the walls!? 😱 The little bastards! Ok, I wouldn't blame you for just sodding off somewhere! I hope it is resolved for you soon x

We're getting the bathroom done this year and I've already decided we're having exposed pipe work. I couldnt care less about the aesthetic, I don't want to have to pull walls apart to find a leak or have a pipe leaking without being able to see it.

TroisCroissants · 12/01/2024 17:42

Good decision FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain! Make a feature of it if you can, but even if not, enjoy the convenience in years to come!

When we moved in we tried to find the stopcock, no luck. Plumbers had no clue. After a forensic search and interviews with all the relevant neighbours (a handful of houses were identical originally but are now all different configurations)... We concluded it is in the hallway wall. In the fucking wall, who does that!?
