Am I mentally unstable like he says?

I have a thing about the colours of my food mixing. Lasagne is my fave meal and I never have it because my partner just refuses to make it. Last night I made it one handed whilst holding the baby because I wanted to give myself love.

Just as I get it out, the baby needs feeding (boob) so I ask him to serve it.

He comes in and I try to hide my upset as I look at his plate and mine but it felt like right there was a symbolism of how much he respects me. He said there's absolutely no difference between the two plates and I'm melodramatic and over reacting. That I need to get a grip and get my mental health looked into.

I can see your point.

He also has the serving skills of a toddler.

It's dinner at home, not Masterchef final.

If tidy food presentation is a big thing fair enough (I personally couldn’t care less). But seeing this as a symbol of the quality of the relationship does seem OTT

Its just making me wonder how a relationship can be sustained when these very trivial things are seen as dealbreakers. What if he fails to put her socks back in the right drawer by accident or irons something wrong. It’s just all quite petty and it feels like there’s a bigger problem underneath it.

Why is there so much food smeared around the edge of the plate before you've even eaten it?

I do see your point
His is a portion, you're is like he's scraped the end bits out. You've not even got the topping.

I don't understand about the colour of your food mixing tho or why you can't put the baby down to cook or why he isn't able to look after his own child.

Seems like there more going on here than his slapping your food onto a plate like he's feeding the dog

MrsSamR · 12/01/2024 14:43

Probably missing the point of the thread but if you don't like the colours of your food mixing then how is lasagne your favourite meal where the mixing of colours is pretty much a certainty?

Shf · 12/01/2024 14:48

Well if those are before eating, that’s a LOT of smeared food around the plate… But other than the chips on one, I’m not seeing a huge difference?

Bobbotgegrinch · 12/01/2024 15:12

Whats the issue sorry?

doublexegg · 12/01/2024 15:26

It looks like puke in a dish.
Whats the problem with it be grateful you have something to eat something to cook.
Some familys are going to the food banks just to get through the week.
Way over the top reaction get a grip.

FluffyFanny · 12/01/2024 16:06

Both plates have loads of food around the edges- how did it get there? Weird!

Eh? So because some people use a food bank, the rest of us should accept our food being slopped on our plates any old how and stop caring about presentation?

Spirallingdownwards · 12/01/2024 16:10

No I would be outraged too if someone felt it was acceptable to have chips with lasagne 😂

Aglets · 12/01/2024 16:15

No chips with lasagne. Garlic bread and a side salad please.

I'd be annoyed but I'm an autistic and am fussy particular about how my food is presented. How did he manage to smear so much around the plate?

Total lack of care and consideration.

Is yours the plate that's all smashed up? If so that's shit?
Why has he said you have unstable mental health? Is he referencing any diagnosis or needs etc ? X

ChittaChatta · 12/01/2024 16:27

I remember breastfeeding and my husband bringing my the wrong type of sandwich. It was petty, yes, but I was hungry and tired, have ASC/ADHD it really upset me
