I'm posting here for traffic, sorry not sorry

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and I've been constipated for weeks. Dr will only prescribe lactulose and it's not helping.

The night before last a large hemmoroid appeared and it's absolutely agonising. I couldn't move all of yesterday and I was up all night, I've never known a pain like it.

Phoned for a GP appointment this morning and GP called me over an hour ago, listened to everything and said he would call me right back. He hasn't called back.

I honestly don't know what to do I can't eat or sleep or walk and I'm terrified this won't be resolved before I give birth. Please help!

Don't take co-codamol! Codeine is an opiate, and will cause constipation. Try a Micralax enema-available from chemists or Amazon, and it's a lot smaller volume than the Fleet enemas.

I'd only ever take paracetamol while pregnant unless the Dr said to do otherwise

Sorry so many good suggestions and trying to respond to them all!

@justforthisnow I can barely walk at the moment so desperately want to get this sorted before I give birth

Thank you @goldierocks I've been taking the lactulose for about 4/5 days now but will try and stick with it

@Wishitsnows he didn't seem too bothered. To be honest if there's no improvement this weekend I think I'm going to have to consider what other options there are, perhaps calling midwife team or 111

It is just the absolute worst pain. In the past I have used like a sanitary towel shaped ice pack ( think it was from Amazon) which you can put in the freezer and then put in your pants to reduce swelling. have also found Proctesydl suppositories and cream helpful but not sure if can be prescribed in pregnancy and has to be prescribed by Gp. Hope the pain settles soon. The only way I have found to get them reduced in size is to address the constipation, keep on with the lactulose as stools need to be soft. Unfortunately they can take some time to go down.

Thank you @Babyroobs I think I was focusing on treating the piles themselves so definitely need to shift my focus to the constipation

I've just choked down a handful of dried prunes, they're awful! I bought the juice (£4 for one carton!!) So hopefully that's easier to get down

If you don't like prune juice then try apple juice. I have found this works for me, just the supermarket own cheap brand but drink lots and lots of it. Hope you feel better soon!

Can you speak to your midwife team in the morning and ask to see one of the consultants. A friend did that and they lanced the bastard causing immediate relief!
