Turning 40 this year and feeling a wobbly about it - how did you feel turning 40?!

OP posts:
Whattobakeiwonder · 11/01/2024 20:16

I didn't mind the idea of turning 40.

All my friends told me it would be the end of the world.

I turned 40 and then there was a PANDEMIC

Just saying.

mambojambodothetango · 11/01/2024 20:16

No. Life has got better and better since turning 40. What are you afraid of? Embrace it! It's not like you have a choice!

gormin · 11/01/2024 20:17

I struggle more when the number ends in 9 for some reason - sense of foreboding or whatever.

I actually love being in my 40s, I've found it quite liberating to stop thinking of myself as a 'young woman'.

YomAsalYomBasal · 11/01/2024 20:20

No, it really is just a number. It did encourage me to put a bit more effort into my pension though.

RocketIceLollie · 11/01/2024 20:26

Not really. I purposely kept it low key with as little fuss as possible by my own order. Birthdays are just a number to me at this stage.

2chocolateoranges · 11/01/2024 20:28

Growing old is a privilege that many don’t get.

every day is a gift! Grab every opportunity with both hands,

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 11/01/2024 20:28

40 kind of passed me by as DS was 3.

I’m 50 tomorrow. Feeling it a bit more as things are changing physically.

tryingeverydayagain · 11/01/2024 20:32

I'm 39 this year and I'm definitely having a bit of a freak out about the big 4-0 next year, so I get it OP. But ultimately it is just a number isn't it. I dont believe I look my age (well I'm told not), and I don't feel it either, so who cares 🤷‍♀️

purplecorkheart · 11/01/2024 20:45

No. A couple of years before I had a neighbour who passed away due to illness. When she was diagnosed her goal was to live to see her 40th birthday but sadly passed away a few days before so I felt very lucky.

Her parents sent me some beautiful flowers and asked me to enjoy every year getting older for me and her.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 11/01/2024 20:48

Absolutely fine.

Mairzydotes · 11/01/2024 20:49

No , I was looking forward to being 40

Charlie2121 · 11/01/2024 20:50

I decided to try and have a baby when I turned 40.

itsmyp4rty · 11/01/2024 20:52

40 was great, now looking forward to 50 in a years time. I love getting older and wiser.

EmpressaurusOfTheSevenOceans · 11/01/2024 20:55

Turning 40 was the trigger that pushed me to end a crap relationship and rebuild my life.

When I turned 50 a few months ago I looked back & celebrated my 40-year-old self for making that change.

Tartantatooes · 11/01/2024 20:56

Dilbertian · 11/01/2024 20:02

No. My wobble was when I turned 30. By the time I turned 40 my life was so different, so busy, that it barely mattered. The next time I had a wobble was when my eldest dc turned 18.

30 for me

DappledThings · 11/01/2024 20:57

Nope, didn't think anything of it really.

LifeExperience · 11/01/2024 20:57

Turning 30 bothered me the most. 40, 50 and 60 were no problem. Aging is a privilege.

AlltheFs · 11/01/2024 20:58

I think I went a bit mad as I decided to have a baby out of the blue 😂

My 40’s have been ace.

Turning 40 this year and feeling a wobbly about it - how did you feel turning 40?!

Will be turning 40 in December. So just turned 39 last month and massively thinking about all this.

All I have arrived at so far is: GRATITUDE.

I don’t need lists and things I need to do. In the world we live in i am just filled with an acute sense of gratitude and overwhelm that I’ve so far got my health, my DH, my parents, my two wonderful kids and my career, my home and my ddog.

i am acutely aware how fragile every single one thing on that list is - and well, all I have got going towards 40, is gratitude.

gettingolderbutcooler · 11/01/2024 21:00

No! Huge party. I looked fabulous!
50- not so much...
And as for 60 looming...that's going to be fucking shit. 🤪

Theoldcuriosityshop · 11/01/2024 21:02

40 is still young. I didn't even freak out hitting 70.
