Is it weird?

Used to go to festivals/concerts before Dd came along, haven’t been since…are we too old (don’t feel/look old)
Whats it like with a 5 year old? Enjoyable or annoying?
For context, it would be in the summer, abroad

Seems normal to me, some are more family focused eg camp bestival but my niece and nephew go to Glastonbury as little ones.

I think it would be a nightmare, to be honest. Crowded, people drinking...trying to keep track of a five year old in that atmosphere while trying to enjoy yourself...

this.

the whole experience would be ruined for me by the stress.

@ClumsyNinja

They aren't chap

whiteboardking · 11/01/2024 14:39

We did it that age with two DC.. along with a lot of others

bobomomo · 11/01/2024 14:39

@ClumsyNinja

They aren't chaotic and you can sit away from speakers though my dc have loved them since babies (actually dd1 went to her first when I was heavily pregnant and was super active!)

kintra · 11/01/2024 14:40

@bobomomo Some are! I had a panic attack in the crowd of one a few years ago and I'm a full grown adult. That's why it's important to choose carefully

Crushed23 · 11/01/2024 14:42

I can’t work out which bit you’re worried about - your ages or the fact you’ll have a child in tow?

(Both are fine!)

Not sure how you are setting up the voting, but you sound like the core demographic for festivals like Latitude.

Less so Leeds or Reading.

Came on here to say this!

I find crowded pubs too much so I’m pretty sure I would get v stressed by a festival. I hate going to the theatre and a busy cinema too.

I’m gently trying to point out that whilst some people (like yourself) love going to such events, you shouldn’t assume that your offspring will feel the same way.

Two of my children are complete opposites so one loves live music, crowds etc. and the other one is more like me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@onlyforeignerinthevillage you have to do it! It always sounds worse than it is. My son stayed up until 11 last year and watched the whole of Metallica and he’s always asking us to play them now! 😂

We did camp but didn’t camp that night and grandparents had him for the other few days so we could have our own fun. It was a one off though as we have another baby on the way now!

If you wanted to do the full weekend with children I would definitely stay in a hotel, there’s plenty around Derby/Nottingham.

Echobelly · 11/01/2024 14:51

No, it's really common. I'm a bit sad we never got round to going to a festival with the kids when they were young.

MeditatationMum · 11/01/2024 14:57

Depends on the festival and on your expectations. Pick the right family festival and be prepared to miss loads of bands and spend loads of time doing kids stuff and you'll be grand.

bananamangoes · 11/01/2024 14:57

Is five year old good at staying up late? If so; what do you do when they want to sleep?

BowiesJumper · 11/01/2024 15:06

I’d be worried about the heat/ lack of shade/ late nights. Depends on the festival obviously.
