To think £11 to wash and dry a small load at the laundrette is absurd?

I can't believe it, how do people afford this on a regular basis, and why?
Our local drycleaner charges £20 to wash dry and iron 20 items which is much better value.

I almost collapsed when I went to ours with the Kingsize duvet to wash it. £8 just for the wash - you still had to put it though a spinner and the Dryer

I really imagined it would be a couple of pounds. I fell sorry for those who have no option but to use them. I would personally invest in a washboard and wringer, lol.

Having kingsize (or any other size) duvets laundered is a rip off - when you change your home washing machine make sure you get one that you can wash a king size duvet in, it's much easier and cheaper.

£11 for washing and drying a small load is a lot, unless you mean £11 for a service wash, dry and then iron, in which case I think it's reasonable.

Not even a service wash, she said I wouldn't have to sit and wait but if I took longer than an hour after the wash finished to come back and put it in the dryer she would do it and charge me for a service wash which is £5 extra.

No it's effing barmy but I suppose if you totted up what it'd cost at home, added up their costs, you'd see their point. Still extortionate, though.

The last time I did it was at uni and it was £1 for a quick wash then you fed the dryer with 50ps until the clothes were dry.

I'm waiting for a new washing machine and discovering the joys of the launderette.

We spent £19 last weekend, on 2 loads of washing and drying afterwards !! (for about 10 days worth of clothes for a family of 4).

There's no way I could afford that every week ...... that doesn't include towels, sheets or teatowels either (they are piled up waiting for the new machine).

I'm the same catsmother, I have handwashed a few things but had to take some there. I have three bags full of things to be washed too.
Our washing machine is due in the morning and I cannot wait. I have no idea how people cope without one.
