Would you be annoyed at your friend for this

Today we went to the farm park with my 8 month old. She has no children. My LO started crying a lot as she was getting tired and so I was pushing her and trying to get her to fall asleep but she wasn’t so I wrapped her up and got her out the pram and carried her and she was happy to be carried in the end. But my friend walked really fast ahead and left me behind. I think she was embarrassed and didn’t want to stand whilst My baby was crying. I felt is was unfair as if it was me I’d help but she didn’t want to associate when my baby was crying and then wouldn’t help push the pram when I got my baby out to carry her

Maybe she had a head ache or didn't know what to do. The sound of a crying baby is piercing and can really distress people so she may just have wanted a bit of peace.

Just like if you were walking your dog and it was barking constantly.

I have 2 kids and love babies, but I can't stand toddlers screaming, luckily mine never did but the sound literally makes me want to rage. So I would probably walk away if this was the case - but be all helpful with a crying baby.

Noises can be so triggering so I would not take it personally

It’s a while since my children were that age, but I think that they wouldn’t have enjoyed a farm park much at 8 months & would’ve been irritable. Maybe she expected something more bucolic & peaceful and was not prepared for the noise?

I actually think that’s really rude. I cannot stand it when people walk away from those in their company. Rude rude rude.

BambooFridge · 09/01/2024 21:22

I think it's more likely that she was trying to get away from the noise than she was embarrassed. A baby crying at a children's activity outside is not even slightly embarrassing.

She also may have felt like you needed the space to soothe the baby and didn’t really know how to help.

Before having my kids I always felt a bit awkward with babies and knowing how to help my mum friends in the right way.

I’d fuck her off as a friend tbh. I did when a friend of mine acted like my lovely new baby was an inconvenience.

My DDs loved animals as babies. I remember my eldest could not stop laughing at Meerkats. I think your friend just didn’t know what to do. Nothing much more than that. Ask her to push the pushchair next time.

You'd just walk away from a friend without a word? Just walk off?

I think that's really really rude.

Fair enough that a crying baby is an annoying noise but I can't imagine just walking off without saying anything. I'd be upset if a friend did that.

ManateeFair · 10/01/2024 19:57

She probably just felt like a spare part and walked ahead so you could give your full attention to the baby.

Originalusername89 · 10/01/2024 22:53

This all sounds pretty childish from both of you tbh. It's weird that she walked off without saying anything but it also weird that you're complaining about it on mumsnet rather than just asking your friend what was up....
