to worry about babys reaction to cold?

second baby and have no memory of my first doing this. i don’t think it’s normal. my one year old is bundled up in layer after layer with a blanket and everything when we go out. yet everytime she screams, cries, shivers, and her hands and feet turn purple because she’s so cold. we end up going home early everytime because it feels cruel. and then at home it takes over an hour for her to warm up/stop shivering and go a normal colour even after a hot bath, heating on high, wtc etc. is this at all normal? i’m starting to worry, we barely bother taking her outdoors anymore.

When you say layer after layer, what are you dressing her in? Are you using warm fabrics, thermals, wool or cotton? Polyester is not warm. Are you layering close to her skin? Does she have a very warm hat? Could she have cold feet?

A 1 year old in a pram who's not walking to keep warm will get cold fast. Have you tried a rain cover for extra insulation?

Failing all that I would chat to your GP, could it be a circulation issue perhaps?

Has she always been like it or just during this cold snap?

MissCherryCakeyBun · 09/01/2024 20:34

It sounds very like Raynauds Phenomenon, a friends son had this.
Some helpful info ton from Great Ormond Street www.gosh.nhs.uk/conditions-and-treatments/general-medical-conditions/raynaud-s-phenomenon/

Sounds extreme I'd get her checked out by a doctor, babies are usually warm.

I was also going to suggest you look at raynauds syndrome. Unusual in babies but not unheard of.
You need a gp appointment.

so usually when going for a walk atm it will be - bodysuit, long sleeve top, socks, sleepsuit. socks over the sleepsuit. then a big woolly cardigan or a coat depending on how cold it is and a rainsuit / snowsuit on top. hat, socks on her hands and mittens, big fluffy blanket tucked around her body and legs and she has a footmuff attached to the pram which tucks her in. anyone else i feel like would be sweating. mostly cotton fabrics. i feel like it sounds so extreme to still be cold with all that 😅

it’s been for a few months. hard to say as last winter she was a newborn she was in hospital a lot as had bronchiolitis and covid so never really left the house as i was scared she’d catch it again

You need to see the doc not the Internet.

No you're definitely not. That's an insane amount of clothing for the baby to still be cold. The weather has actually only been cold for the past week, before that it was exceptionally mild and you said its been going on for months. Definitely get her checked ASAP x
