Gave a tip New Year's Eve. Brother in law was really angry. Surely its OK especially this time over year

Eh? Do you mean a tip in a bar/restaurant? Or a random tip to him about some aspect of life?

FuckingHellAdele · 09/01/2024 19:56

Was it 'never eat yellow snow'?

Always relevant, I feel.

Coconutter24 · 09/01/2024 19:56

If it’s your money and you’re the one giving the tip what’s it got to do with your BIL?

Merryoldgoat · 09/01/2024 19:57

What now?

Asosbabe · 09/01/2024 19:57

Delivery driver

OP posts:
Whatevs23 · 09/01/2024 19:58

Huh?

Asosbabe · 09/01/2024 19:59

My money, not his, not life changing amount!!!

OP posts:
PossumintheHouse · 09/01/2024 19:59

He’s really odd to be “really angry” with you about a tip, especially nine days on. Unless you gave the delivery driver 500 quid or something. Sounds mean-spirited and tight to me. We usually give the delivery driver a pound or two.

Merryoldgoat · 09/01/2024 20:01

I suspect it’s your unique communication style that actually pissed him off.

Asosbabe · 09/01/2024 20:01

What now? As at who gives a ... ?

OP posts:
Asosbabe · 09/01/2024 20:03

What was wrong with my communicating style?

OP posts:
GenXisthebest · 09/01/2024 20:05

Why does he know or care?

"Surely its OK especially this time over year"

"As at who gives a ... ?"

Asosbabe · 09/01/2024 20:24

Is that really bad then? I knew I wasn't the greatest communicator but this could explain a thing or two! I'm that bad on the communicating?

OP posts:
PossumintheHouse · 09/01/2024 20:26

You’re being vague OP, yes. It wasn’t exactly clear what you were asking in your first post.
How big a tip did you give the delivery driver? How did your BIL find out? Why was he so angry?

Asosbabe · 09/01/2024 20:29

£5 tip for delivery meal for twelve people. I thought that was OK. He's very rich and on most things very generous. Just was cross over giving a tip to a delivery driver

OP posts:
Mumaway · 09/01/2024 20:30

We almost always tip for meals out, and at Christmas the postie, bin man, grocery delivery man and our regular courier man get tips in a small card.

DuckonaBike · 09/01/2024 20:34

Yes, of course you should tip the delivery driver and a fiver is a pretty normal amount. If your BIL has a problem with that he’s a tight arse. And also a weirdo. HTH.

Asosbabe · 09/01/2024 20:39

He's rolling in it and very generous on everything except tips.

OP posts:
PossumintheHouse · 09/01/2024 20:40

Your BIL is a Muppet. Rich and tight. What a shocker.

Edit: if he’s still going on about it nine days later that’s just odd. Don’t mention tips in future.

Asosbabe · 09/01/2024 20:41

Just think tips is an easy way to spread it around if you have it

OP posts:
Whataretheodds · 09/01/2024 20:47

So you tipped a delivery driver with your own money, 10 days ago.

Why are you giving your BIL's opinion a second thought?

Asosbabe · 09/01/2024 20:50

He's not going on nine days later to be fair. It's me thinking about it nine days later why such an issue? Issue stopped with him one day later to be fair but interested to know if I'm out of touch on tipping

OP posts:
PossumintheHouse · 09/01/2024 20:54

A fiver is a generous tip for a delivery, but a nice gesture on a night such as New Year’s Eve. There’s not much more to say.

Thursa · 09/01/2024 21:03

A fiver’s not much on a meal for 12 on NYE
