Do your saucepans do this? Or am I being 'gaslit'? (pics)

First world problem.

I bought a small 14cm (1.3l) saucepan and it doesn't balance on the gas hob unless the handle is exactly lined up with the 'tines' of the hob. It topples over if the handle isn't precisely lined up, even if the pot itself is right in the middle of the burner. (see pics)

It was an expensive purchase (£73), and built to last a life time. But it's too annoying, and a potential hazard, so I want to return it. The labels were removed and we used it before noticing the fault.

Customer service has said that it's perfectly normal that small pots do this, and they won't refund it.

Do you have pots that topple over like this? Is it indeed normal? Or am I being gaslit by the company (excuse the pun)?

I've never had this problem with other pots of this size.

Well obviously now I am curious about the recipe!

But yes, my small pan does this. Handle heavier than base of pan.

Deliaskis · 09/01/2024 21:03

Sorry that was @SingleDadReally ! Thought I had quoted.

PaintBySticker · 09/01/2024 21:05

I have a small regal frying pan that does this and it drives me bonkers. So annoying.

PaintBySticker · 09/01/2024 21:05

I’d be even more annoyed if I’d paid £73 for it! What is the brand?

PaintBySticker · 09/01/2024 21:06

Regal = Tefal

allgrownupnow · 09/01/2024 21:07

This is why I stopped having a gas hob, hate tippy pans! Love my induction hob

Mine do but looks like we gave the exact same stovetop

On closer inspection, yes so do we!

Boomboom22 · 09/01/2024 21:10

Surely it's your hob missing the cross supports not the pan at fault.

Grimbelina · 09/01/2024 21:11

Looks like the handle is too heavy or the base isn't heavy enough. A design fault. I would be annoyed too at that price and want a refund/exchange.

Underthesea65 · 09/01/2024 21:13

I always thought it was to do with safety as your handle shouldn't be sticking out that way, so it means it has to be turned inwards.

Beastiesandthebeauty · 09/01/2024 21:21

Also just spotted the ironic pun 🤣🤣🤣

maximist · 09/01/2024 21:23

I love my induction hob, no more pans tipping over for me!

therealcookiemonster · 09/01/2024 21:30

it's just gravity babes. by the looks of it the handle probably ways the same as the pan obv the weight distribution is uneven due to shape hence depending on where the support underneath is, it will topple...

Nchange22 · 09/01/2024 21:35

I have this issue with smaller saucepans. Strangely never a problem until I moved to the UK. I agree that the hob should have more supports.

Jellybean23 · 09/01/2024 21:44

I used to have this problem when we had a gas hob but the small pan was ok when enough water was in it to offset the weight of the handle. Putting the lid on also alleviated the problem.

DrFoxtrot · 09/01/2024 21:59

I've had this with some small pans but it's never bothered me Confused I just balance it so it's stable.

JTRSOP · 09/01/2024 22:13

It’s the hob. I have a gas hob on a range cooker and all pots and pans of any size and make are properly supported. I’ve never had a pan tilt like that.

letmeeatinpeace · 02/03/2024 19:50

Update: I ordered those cooker top reducers but the pot was still being annoying so I took it back to Borough Kitchen. Even though it was a couple of months after purchase, and had been used, they actually took it back and exchanged it for a voucher. Great customer service in their shop, much better than online!

Oh and I found a small pot that doesn't tip over at TKmaxx, of all places! (brand is Swiss Diamond - good heavy bottom pot)
