To wonder if boys & men normally prefer non fiction

Might sound daft. But apart from my gran and I, I’m not from a family of readers. My parents could barely read (mum possibly dyslexic and dad hardly went to school due to neglect)

anyway, I notice that my FIL and husband only seem to read non fiction.

my 7 year old son will ask to read fiction but get bored and start faffing before we finish one page. But when it’s non fiction he’s really interested and asks lots of questions.

is this normal? Do men usually prefer non fiction

We totally uphold the stereotype in our family - DH and DS both prefer non fiction and DD and me prefer fiction. I can't explain it though.

I've been wondering this too. My brother will read some fiction, graphic novels and fantasy. But as children he mostly read non fiction. I have never once seen my DH read fiction, all non fiction or autobiographies. My dd's aren't keen on non fiction, and I couldn't understand why my academically able 7 year old wasn't into reading all the books I read to his sister's, but I've had success since switching to non fiction at bedtime.

Yeah, DS seems to want to be interested in fiction… but can’t actually get into it. But start on one of those Osborne books about facts and he really comes to life… showing me where various countries are on a map etc
