Beach party dilemma

we are currently in a country with decent weather , is a beach birthday for a 4 year old a good idea ? Might be a bit messy for food time but they could wash hands etc first ?? Easy entertainment with beach balls and sand castles etc , parents will be present , but im not sure if it will feel like a party party, if that makes sense. Other than balloons and cake at the end, it may not have a party atmosphere? Although maybe that doesn’t matter so much ? I’m also considering an option at an outdoor cafe that does birthday cakes , decor and has party music on. However would some treat food at a cafe followed by cake at a cafe be too boring for around 6-8 kids at this age ? I could have colouring and some balls etc available but is that enough ? Wdyt ?

The fact that it's my DS birthday this week and we've no chance of an outdoor party, makes me slightly envious 😅
I'd do the beach party. Take some music and play limbo etc. You can still do party games and make it a party vibe!

I think it depends a bit on what the guests are used to.
Is the beach somewhere they all go, normally, to sit / paly / swim / dig sandcastles ?
Me, I LOVE going to the beach, but I am landlocked and 2 - 3hrs from beaches normally, and live in UK where weather is unpredictable.

But if the guests all live on the seafront, they might feel differently ?

I think it's fine. People do picnic in the park type of parties quite a lot in the summer. Similar to that.

TempName247 · 08/01/2024 18:36

For me, no way!

sorry, editing to say the beach would be too much hassle for me to take my 4 year old, if all the guests love the beach and dealing with sand and sea then it is fine for a party! I prefer somewhere self contained for that age group.

You are overthinking. A beach party sounds great! Go for it!

Whataretheodds · 08/01/2024 18:38

Great idea. Can you make a camp with beach umbrellas and string some bunting between them? You can then tie balloons to the poles (appropriately weighted so they don't all take off).

Borrow or hire a folding plastic trestle table to put under the shade for drinks and snacks. Or put them in open boxes to protect from sand coming sideways?

Play some music?

Agree it depends very much on the role of the beach in your day to day lives. If people use it like the park at the end of the street and the DC play there every day, you might need to add in some more formal entertainment or organised games to make it special. What does DC say? Does the idea of a beach party excite them?

As long as there are enough adults to fully supervise all the children you are inviting - will their parents stay ?

Grimmz · 08/01/2024 19:25

What a fab idea! But agree that all kids would absolutely need a parent there to supervise them.

SandyWaves · 08/01/2024 22:53

I would do it when its not too hot. Lots of umbrellas and suncream at the ready. But kids love the beach and planned well, it sounds like a great idea. Could you create a 'fenced' area for them to play in, so the parents don't have to police them all the time and have some helpers to make sure they are all safe? Obviously, that is the parents job, but still a nice touch.

I think the combination of several young children and possibility of one wandering off and being missed near water would be too high for me.

I'd go to a park, mark out the boundary with thick ribbon for where they can go to, wireless speaker with children's party songs, and play some little party games or sports, 4 year olds don't need too much. A bubble machine will keep them busy fir ages especially if you could also buy (or make) a giant bubble wand - you need two drum stick like sticks, a bucket if bubble mix and some netting for lots of little bubbles or rope tied together to make one large bubble.

idontlikealdi · 08/01/2024 23:18

Will the parents stay? My concern would be the water not the sand.
