Weight gain mid-40s

I’m sure it’s been said a thousand times on here… but what the actual fuck?

I’m quite active. I row, I do yoga, I cycle places and I often get in about 10,000 steps. No gym, but an active lifestyle. That with a normal diet has kept me a healthy weight my entire life. Bmi 22-24, muscles kind of person.

I’ve become aware for a while I’m becoming prone to weight gain. I’ve tweaked my diet, watched portions, cut down junk and alcohol. My weight gain just accelerates. Last week I was really sensible. No junk. Plenty of veg, lots of exercise and lighter portions of healthy meals. I eat what my husband does, we’re usually the same weight and lose/ gain in sync. He’s lost a little, I’ve fucking gained yet another kg. In a week. To my new heaviest ever. More than every time I gave birth! Overweight now comfortably.

Just wtf. It’s depressing, like all the rules are out the window and weight gain is just happening.

I had the same, but also felt more tired.

Turned out I had an underactive thyroid.

I’m tired too. Was linking it to mad periods

A kilo in a week is equivalent to over 1000 calories a day above the energy you are consuming, so if that doesn't tally with your intake / output - I would go and speak to a gp

I don't think it's inevitable in your 40s. I'm 49 and haven't put on weight. I eat whatever I want but do 16/8 intermittent fasting which is an excellent way to maintain/lose weight. I'd see your doctor if there's really no reason for it.

It will lay itself around your ribcage and your shoulders. Nothing to be done, it's our hormone derangement.
However, do get your thyroid checked and continue exercising as the latter will help prevent extra weight gain

It could also be related to menopause

Yes I’m getting it here too and it’s on my stomach which never happened before.
