Freeze of the century

This week is described as the freeze if the century. No parts of the south of UK are going to get some snow. Further north we are still getting temps well above freezing with zero snow and ice all week. How come the UK goes crazy over a bit of snow in the south but further north nothing is mentioned? It's just winter.

We had snow on the ground for 3 months. I used a pic of the massive icicles outside the boys' bedroom window as an avatar in various places until very recently.

It was the coldest December since 1890 on the CET.

There wasn't a huge amount of snow where I was, but it hung around for a long time.

It was brutally cold, but most people hardly remember it if you ask them. That's why newspapers can get away with printing all sort of nonsense about Frozen Armageddon, because the average member of the general public has a memory pretty much equal to that of a goldfish.

I'm pretty sure the Daily Rages blurt out these cold Armageddon/hot Armageddon stories every couple of weeks - it saves them having to do any real work. Along with House prices go up/down and Pensions to rise/fall.

I thought the worry was the flood waters feeezing.

South-east. Over 3 inches, on ungritted roads. Even the A roads. Very slow traffic. So after that has mushed in rush hour, then frozen overnight more problems tomorrow morning. I'm wfh.

It's not cold enough for me. I'm still wearing my summer tops with just a cardigan on top. I've had to ditch my duvet and colder weather nighties 😂🥵

We’ve had some snow where I am today and it’s the first snow we’ve had in years, so it isn’t ‘just winter’ down here.

But snow is part of winter in the UK. It might not happen every year or even settle properly when it does happen, but it is a normal part of our climate in the winter months.

The UK doesn’t have the same climate everywhere though. It isn’t just a normal part of winter here, you should have seen how excited the kids were coming out of school! My ds has never seen proper snow. Saying that though the press do like to over exaggerate these things

Who said that - it's 2 degrees here so NOT freezing!

We're in the south and have had snow nearly all day and it settled. It's not especially cold though, the birds water has frozen but it's nothing like Jan and Feb of 2011 when it lasted more than a couple of weeks and really was snowy and cold. Cold for England that is.
