To feel really pissed off/upset about this?

I went today to get snowboarding boots from a specialist supplier.

I was unwell with long covid for ages and put on lots of weight but in the last 6 months have lost loads of the weight I put on, and I am starting to feel good in myself again.

The lady who worked at the store was one of those types who comes across as very abrupt and I didnt think her customer service was up to much, but that in itself didn't overly bother me.

However, she, during the course of the fitting (took a couple of hours) she repeatedly told me that I'm short and have stumpy legs (I'm 5ft 3), that I have chunky legs, chunky calves and fat feet.

I understand that the boots need to fit properly but this just felt so personal. Surely she could have been more diplomatic?

We are going away next week and I needed the boots so I did buy them, but am really upset about the things she said.

She was nice as pie to DH, who also got a pair. I don't think she liked me very much.

I'm sorry you had to listen to that. I'd have no hesitation in complaining to the manager, there's being abrupt and then there's THAT. It really isn't difficult to say 'a shorter leg', 'muscular calf' or 'wider foot' is it?

Please don't take her comments to heart, you are losing weight and getting fitter. You are changing, I doubt that woman will. Imagine being a nasty cow all your life, how awful must that be!

I hope you have an absolute blast next week, it should do you the world of good after being ill for so long.

Absolutely she should have had better manners, sorry you had to experience that. She was probably jealous that your going on holiday... when someone is nasty, rude, ill mannered etc it's usually because they are unhappy, feel sorry for her!

MammaEvz3 · 06/01/2024 23:25

No I don't think you're being unreasonable to be upset by these comments. She could still easily do her job without saying those things. It was totally unnecessary.

Some people are simply nasty.

Don't take it personally, she's just horrible and very rude.

I would forget about it and move on. I wouldn't complain. She'll wriggle out of it, likely nobody will care anyway.

Crikey, what a horrible woman. There was no need for that whatsoever.

Very rude but ignore. I was once in Greenwich market and a lady selling hats said to me ‘you have a large head for your height’. Quite rude but now amusing and not really a great sales technique!

Sounds like a character in a Catherine Tate sketch!

She’s just a dick.

I’d put in a complaint because she has no business making people feel bad.

Then forget about it and enjoy your holiday
