If you leave stuff on the side it must be ready to clean

I am privileged and have a dishwasher. My stepchildren and husband are trained in dishwasher operation.

AIBU to say if dirty bowls and plates are left on the side as dishwasher is full they must be in such a state that they are ready to load in. Eg. No cocktail stick, plastic stawers, large clumps of food left on them. Or is that the dishwasher loader's task

No, they must be ready to load and sensibly stacked, ie not spread throughout the kitchen, or taking up half the work top, and definitely no Jenga.

It's more like buckaroo here at times!

I'd tell the lazy gits to just wash them if the dishwasher's full.

How long would it take, about 5 minutes!

ditalini · 06/01/2024 12:24

No it's lazy imo to leave waste food scraps lying around. Takes seconds for the table clearer to put them in the bin.

Don't start me on greasy dishes and pans dumped in 2 inches of cold water in the sink 😫

PotterHead1985 · 06/01/2024 12:50

Oh so much this. My mother has weetabix for breakfast. I am fed up the amount of times I have to tell her to rinse the damn bowl when she's finished else it dries on and won't come off in the dishwasher.

But why doesn't she just wash the bowl?

It'd take her exactly the same amount of time as rinsing it would?

Pumpkinpie1 · 06/01/2024 12:58

Never use a dishwasher, but do agree plates etc should be left ready tto wash

bluebellcopse · 06/01/2024 13:06

If dishwasher is full and clean I'd expect them to empty it and put the dirty stuff in. If it's in operation I'd expect them to wash the stuff up.

LaughterTitsoff · 06/01/2024 13:12

How have people got so lazy they can't wash a plate/bowl and a bit of cutlery after themselves.

And worse, they're not even expected to?

your dishwascher is shit if it doesn't wash off weetabix/porridge concrete.

op yanbu dirties scraped and stacked near the dw.

what I can't stand is people not unloading and stacking when it's finished.

WorkCleanRepeat · 06/01/2024 13:20

If the dishwasher is full, empty it. If it's on then just wash the plate up and put it away.

Waste of hot water. Stacking for next dishwasher load is much more sensible.

Dried Weetabix could be used as a building material I'm sure!

We did a week without the dishwasher and our smart meter shows we used way more gas (gas boiler) in £ than we did electric (dishwasher) so I'm agreeing with this.

Quite often because there is no hot water at that point to wash it with. (Immersion only). Also a quick rinse out of the dregs vs a wash and dry with hot water is less time standing for her (she has mobility issues). I want her to do tiny things for herself still where possible.

It depends how long the bowl has been sitting there hardening. Its a 2 person household so often the dishwasher will only go on once per day, after the dinner. Therefore the bowl could have been sitting getting harder all day. Also yes I think my dishwasher is starting to get a bit mardy and it is on the long list of things I want to replace this year (but on a home carers income it may take a while). I wish our sink hadn't been put in by a fckin midget at times. I break my back standing to wash up (still do it though).

Dear god yes!!!!!! Especially once its sat to set all day. Lob some wet between your bricks and leave to dry. Hurricane won't move the house!!

Copasetic · 08/01/2024 16:07

I guess it depends who brought them in to the kitchen. My husband sometimes tells me off for not putting dishes/cups in an empty dishwasher and just putting them on the top above it. I would only do that if i just had time to bring them down on way out the door to work/taking kids to school. They would rarely be my cups and mostly what I found in the hall way where kids had put them there. In the same way, if I bring down bowls, drinks with straws etc then i don't think i have to take straws out. In my eyes it was one step towards getting them in the dishwasher that I could do at that time and would do the next step later. If it turned out to actually be my husband getting there first then so be it.

They should scrape the plates, yes. That would also apply if they were leaving them on the side to be washed up by hand, though.
