Can I have a cup of tea after my dental crown was re-cemented? Please help me, in tears

I had my dental crown stuck back on an hour ago after it got very wobbly, I have a lot of health problems going on and severe anxiety over everything and really want a cup of tea to calm myself down.

In tears because googling I can't find anything about if it's ok just a whole range of answers including wait 48 hours before hot drinks I'm going mad I need SOMETHING to comfort myself.

When realistically can I drink tea without risking the crown glue being melted and fucked again?

It only lasted a couple of years before getting very loose before I want this to last but I desperately need to be able to drink tea and herbal teas. Please help.

Also can I take a hot shower? Apart from tea I am craving a long hot shower and now wondering if the heat and steam will also make the cement not set properly? I'm going mad, everything I do to calm myself seems like it will cause more pain and misery now.

Use a straw! Or allow the tea to cool. (Just to be on the safe side until the morning. Although these things do set like cement remarkably quickly) I’m the same - sometimes nothing other than a good cuppa will do.

Tea, no, you would have to have it lukewarm really.

Shower absolutely yes thats fine!

ThreeTreeHill · 05/01/2024 21:29

Why would you not be able to?

It's not a glue, it's a cement. It will be fine. If it comes off with a cup of tea it was not cemented properly

I had a crown recently and my dentist said no hot drinks for one hour. Let it cool down a fair bit though to be on the safe side

MeMyBooksAndMyCats · 05/01/2024 21:29

Leave it to cool down, be fine tomorrow but I wouldn't risk it tonight.

Could you not have a hot shower instead?

AtleastitsnotMonday · 05/01/2024 21:29

I'm pretty sure I was told nothing to eat or drink for an hour. I've certainly never been warned off steam from a shower a I've had loads of dental work.

Idbemonica1 · 05/01/2024 21:30

I was told nothing to drink for an hour. Agree with others that if i had a tea i would wait for it to cool a bit

ThreeTreeHill · 05/01/2024 21:30

I'm a dentist. It's been an hour. You can have a cup of tea and a shower.

dentalmisery · 05/01/2024 21:30

Ok thank you all maybe I should hold out until morning to be safe.

Your dentist should have explained this surely. I just had a filling and he told me no eating and drinking for 2 hours.

mamaca · 05/01/2024 21:40

I'm a dentist too, recommend waiting an hour before eating/drinking to allow it to set x

Prettybubblesintheair · 05/01/2024 21:42

You can have a tea and a shower!

Happynow · 05/01/2024 21:45

I have a crown and an inlay which have been re-cemented several times over the years ... have always been told to wait an hour.
