To cancel for the second time in a row?

I contacted a driving instructor about booking in some driving lessons and was supposed to have my first lesson last week. I became feeling unwell with a cold so decided to cancel giving 48h notice as I felt awful. It’s now a week on and I feel even worse, it’s been a horrid cold/virus and has gone to my chest. I would usually get on with it but I feel lightheaded which isn’t the best idea to drive with, and I know that the instructor is going into hospital for an operation next week so I don’t want to potentially impact that by passing it on.

My driving lesson is tomorrow. I feel like it’ll give me a poor impression and make me come across as flakey that I’ve cancelled two lessons I’m a row a week apart, as usually a cold is just a few days…

WIBU to cancel or will they not believe me? Do I offer to pay for the lesson regardless (£80 for 2 hours)?

I would tell them you are sorry but you still feel sick and you'll call them to reschedule once you feel better. If they're reasonable they'll understand that it happens and probably be glad that you aren't going to make them sick.

Is the notice period 48h for cancellation?
In which case I would cancel but say of course you have transferred money but that you aren’t well and don’t want to spread it.
I hope you feel better

I would cancel and ask what usually happens with payment with a late cancellation, not quibble if they expect you to pay and thank them profusley if they dont.

If you're cancelling less than 24 hours before then I'd expect to pay in full. And maybe give them a call and put the ball in their court a bit - I'm still unwell and I know you're in hospital next week so I'll understand if you don't want to be in a confined space with me for an hour sort of thing.

Is it just the physical illness or are you anxious too?

Of course they won’t mind you cancelling if you give the required notice. What is the required notice? Call them now and explain.

These things happen, you can't predict an illness. Surely the instructor would rather not be in a confined space with you if you are infectious and you wouldn't be feeling your best to take a lesson. Don't worry and get well soon.
