to lie on the sofa all afternoon and let the DC make a mess around me?

because I REALLY cannot be bothered. Usually I do something crafty in the afternoon like playdough, drawing, baking cakes but I really do not have the energy today.

The houseworks had been done, lunch has been made and tidied up, washing on the line so I feel justified today.

Oh and I'm 24 weeks pregnant and have awful SPD so moving is difficult.

think of it as an opportunity for the dc to learn a new skill - entertaining themselves

Well, you simply must lie on the sofa, purely for the good of the baby

mustsleep · 17/03/2008 14:04

hey it's what i do every day!!!

MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 14:39

No. It's a good plan. If you lie on the sofa ignoring the children for one hour it takes roughly half an hour to tidy up.

If you lie on the sofa for 2 hours, it still takes half an hour to tidy up.

Funny that!

I did that once when pg and fell asleep for two hours! woke up and ds2 was still happily playing next to me on the floor. he also snuggled up and fell asleep with me at times!

Unfortunately DDs think that if Mummy is on the sofa they must be too adn climb all over the top of me, shove books in my face, want me to sing songs etc so hardly relaxing!

House still a mess though.

as you're preg you are still hard at work whilst resting!

littleducks · 17/03/2008 19:23

There have been times this pg i have done that (without the mornings work you had already done )

But i too doze off then wake up as a book has been shoved in my eye or dd is bouncing on my head.

DD is only 21 months but has learnt some really good imaginative games, that i can orchastrate half dead asleep from the sofa, she goes shopping for entire lists (milk, bread, chocolate, strawberries) but she has also learnt to shout "Mama WAKE UP, Mama get up, no do shush"

I do it all the time.
It's called "independent play" and in time, it will allow you to have a lie in.
Also, children need to explore and find things out for themselves, not be constantly shown the "right" way to do things.

sweetkitty I'm 33 weeks, if I sit still for long enough ie 5 mins, my 2 dses use me as a climbing frame - it's not very comfortable!

This morning I herded them outside into the garden for a bit of peace, after a while I heard funny noises and laughing. They were using their toy spades to hurl earth around - including at the kitchen window and at each other. I thought "oh well at least they're not fighting" (and the window cleaner comes on Thursday ).

Felt mildly guilty but am learning to live with it

Last time DD1 was only 18 months so still having a good 2 hour nap in the afternoon which meant I was too, the two of them don't nap anymore though and they are only 2 and 3 1/2 so the "in at everything" stage.

I agree theres a lot of independent play in this house.
