So today I have had a delivery (well known company ) and I heard him on the ring doorbell , saying quite loudly ….. YOU ORDER ALL THIS BLOODY CRAP , then mumbling (maybe noticed I had a ring and thought he would shut up) , but seriously , is that not your job to deliver parcels ?

I know people moan and that’s normal , but when you’re literally moaning about the main aspect of your job is that not a bit like wtf ?

I do have quite a few parcels from this company but surely it makes no difference to what house you have to deliver to and whether it’s the same one (once a week)

AIBU - let the man have a moan?
AINBU - he should just crack on , and maybe be aware most people have ring doorbells now 🤣

I prattle on to myself all the time when I think nobody can hear me, and I'm sure some of it is totally unreasonable or just bollocks. Luckily I work from home so it's rare anyone does hear! He was just venting.

Fannyfiggs · 03/01/2024 13:43

Is the company DPD and do you live in Glasgow?

KittensandPerverts · 03/01/2024 13:48

I say things out loud to myself that are utterly unreasonable all the time. Yesterday I moaned out loud to myself when the Asda order (that I had arranged) turned up to bother me. Ridiculous! Not really meant and not for anyone else's ears. Leave the poor man alone.

BaiIee · 03/01/2024 13:56

I think everyone moans about their job one time or another. People get a lot more agitated when they are unwell or sad being back after the Christmas. Or grieving. So many reasons. So yeah he was out of order, I'd have told him I heard him but I'd understand there could be a million reasons why he's pissed off today.

I thought this was going to be an interesting thread about the general malaise in society of late.

Moier · 03/01/2024 14:04

Well l had a delivery this morning ( Evri) got an email with photos of parcel on my step / showed a door.
Wasn't my step nor my door.. completely different colour door.
The fault lies with the company l bought the goods from.. not EVRI.. because they employ them to deliver my parcel correctly.
So now I'm having a battle.
It's honestly getting worse.

novhange · 03/01/2024 14:06

but seriously , is that not your job to deliver parcels ?

You sound a bit superior here.

Just let him moan, he wasn’t talking to you.

Moier · 03/01/2024 14:10

Also add.. l went into town yesterday.
Took some shoes back to Clarks.. shop assistant had a face like a wet weekend and asked stupid questions .
Took a parcel to the post office.. assistant asked me to help someone else at self service because she was busy.. l mean it's not my job.
Went to Supermarket.. l got asked by three other shoppers where an item was... l asked for my bread to be cut on the machine and was told there is some already out that's been cut.. l said there isn't.. she came to look and was quite annoyed l was right.
I took a winning scratch card to claim the money ( only a tenner) and she sighed at me and said l hadn't scratched it correctly.. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

ActDottie · 03/01/2024 14:11

Let him have his moan. Being a delivery driver I think is really stressful and time pressures to deliver on time. I can’t imagine it’s a very fun job even at the best of times.

MotherofWhippets81 · 03/01/2024 14:13

I've had the same with my postman recently. Told me he had been having a laugh with my old postman that he had 'got me' and now he has to deliver 'all of my parcels'.

He's said it to DH as well who just smiled and waved type of thing - I'm not as passive so I said 'well isn't that kind of your job - to deliver stuff?' I also added that I was delighted that I was a hot topic of conversation at the sorting office.

I even leave the porch open he literally has to chuck it through the door.

Hmm
ManateeFair · 03/01/2024 14:19

Pretty sure that if my job was delivering parcels, I'd be moaning about it too.

Don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but anyone whose job is serving customers, in any way whatsoever, will be moaning about those customers. You just happened to hear it this time. But I guarantee you that people who serve you in shops, restaurants, hotels etc also let off steam about their jobs too. It's normal.

Oh how I am sorry this is not to your standard , and just daily drivel , I’ll be sure to make my posts more excitable next time.

This is kinda what I was referring to in the title of my post , thank you , so it’s not just me …. I kinda see more since Covid , albeit that was a while ago now (prob COL has stuff to do with it too) , it’s almost like doing the actual job people are paid to do it too much trouble .

Our area manager used to arrive some days kind of muttering as he checked things and manager one day saw me raise my eyebrows and said she always tells everyone to remember you don’t know what shit he came from that day, but to be fair most of the time he was lovely so not sure with your delivery guy!!!!

How does it sound superior , what an odd thing to say . His job is a courier , and he delivers parcels , hence my comment it’s his job to deliver parcels.

He was moaning about my parcel …..as that’s whose house he was at.

he did moan , I didn’t stop him.

I don't think most people do have ring doorbells. I don't know anyone in real life who has one, not even the big house where I work!

This.

BobnLen · 03/01/2024 15:19

It weren't Evri was it with Next sale stuff, they also deliver JL and M&S, and it's usually the same delivery person. Amazon seems to be different ones each time

Yes, be more "inclusive" next time!!

Moan over. 😁

MindlessChatter · 03/01/2024 16:36

I'd find it funny.

Centwafer · 03/01/2024 16:39

I think a lot of people start off taking pride in their work but then get worn down by the rudeness of the general public or are put upon by their employers - some couriers and delivery drivers don’t even get time to go to the loo - and the current weather must be horrible to work in.

He wasn’t professional but he probably didn’t intend you to hear it op as he didn’t say it to your face. I’d just let him moan tbh so YABU.

I am not blaming all employers as sometimes rules have to be draconian because a few bad employees ruin it for the good ones.

But equally there are some massive conglomerates who don’t pay a lot of tax, who shall remain nameless, who enforce unreasonable working conditions and as the power of the unions has diminished, working conditions are bordering on the inhuman.

CiaraLiara · 03/01/2024 16:46

My Yodel delivery guy is fantastic. He delivers (constantly) always with a massive smile on his face, fantastic attitude and really helpful. Then he's back the day after to collect the same parcels as a lot of it is going back.

the80sweregreat · 03/01/2024 16:48

I always leave good feedback for the parcel delivery people here as they are good , they tend to ring and leave it in the porch , but people can't see our front door that easily so it works for us.
I've had a few grumpy ones , but I understand it's a difficult job and they are on a tight schedule and being on the road can't be easy finding somewhere to go to the loo or eating on the go etc. everyone has a moan about their jobs , he probably has more reason to complain than others that work in warm offices or from home. As long as the parcels arrive ok and intact that's what matters too ?

AutumnBride · 03/01/2024 19:18

I had a parcel from Amazon this morning, my ring doorbell alerted me someone was at the door so I looked to see if I needed to go to the door, the man didn't ring the bell but looked at it sidewards as he sheepishly folded down one side of the parcel to squeeze it through the letterbox 😂

GoodOldEmmaNess · 03/01/2024 19:27

Ach, he was just venting in private (or what he momentarily mistook for private). The joy of that is that you can be as unreasonable as you like.

Anyway, parcel deliverers are often under a load of pressure for a not very big reward, so I would forgive them a lot.

LlynTegid · 03/01/2024 19:44

I'd be forgiving at this time of year, to be honest. Those in any part of retail be it delivering or in a shop have to put up with a lot, and if his job was anything like 'Sorry I missed you', no wonder.
