I think the milk should go in after.
I think dunking biscuits is gross
I think a teabag in a cup is fine as opposed to bags in a teapot
I think sharing a tea bag across different cups is gross
I don't think it matters if you put the teabag in the sink (and bin later)
I think tea leaves as opposed to bags are stupid
I don't like flavoured tea
I like Tetley. Hate Earl Gray.

Tea is disgusting. You’re welcome.

Black coffee all the way 🙂

Ap24 · 03/01/2024 12:32

You have a lot of opinions for someone who likes Tetley teabags.

honeylulu · 03/01/2024 12:40

Milk in after, yes, otherwise the water temperature is too low to properly steep the teabag. However if pouring pre-steeped tea from a teapot I'd put milk in cup first. But rarely use teapot now as found the tea gets too cold before my second cup. I like it really hot and would rather reboil kettle.

Dunking biscuits is gross. Biscuits should be crisp and crunchy. Pointless if they have been pre-sogged.

PG Tips is the best "builder's tea". I like Earl Grey too but no milk. Peppermint tea before bed - helps with digestion.

Tea in mug is more satisfying than a cup and saucer.

I like coffee too but could live without it. My first cup of tea of the day makes me feel so happy. I'm easily pleased!

I think the milk should go in after.
This depends. I agree that milk goes in afterwards when making tea in a cup with a teabag

When making ‘proper tea’ in a pot etc the milk should go into the cup first. But it makes little real difference if you aren’t using fragile China cups

Milky teabags are disgusting, non milky teabags can be used with plants etc. Milky teabags go off in the bin etc

I think dunking biscuits is gross
I disagree, but you’re entitled to your opinion.
The type of biscuit can make quite a difference.

As a side note I am an undefeated ‘tea dueling’ champion - Steam Punk competitive dunking
I shall remain undefeated as I have only participated on one occasion, and intend to protect my undefeated status.
(I was up against a ‘professional’ and she did not look happy with being stared out and defeated by an amateur)

I think a teabag in a cup is fine as opposed to bags in a teapot
Perfectly fine (and it’s also more efficient as when making a pot with tea bags you should add one spare tea bag)

**
I think sharing a tea bag across different cups is gross
I wouldn’t do so, but wouldn’t call it gross

I don't think it matters if you put the teabag in the sink (and bin later)
Fair enough - I agree
It could also be put aside on a plate etc
(A milky tea bag mustn’t though due to its disgusting milky state)

**
I think tea leaves as opposed to bags are stupid
I disagree - it’s more effort but they also allow for proper portion control to make the preferred brew strength

I don't like flavoured tea
Ditto - I like tea to taste like tea

I like Tetley. Hate Earl Gray.
I like Tetley, I have a preference for generic tea, but would drink Earl Gray.

The surprise, unrequested cup of tea is the greatest gift that one human can give to another.

Absolutely. Years ago when my mum died, I was in the garden with my toddler son, I don’t know what triggered it but I broke! I cried and cried hugging my baby and cried. When it eventually stopped I looked up and my elderly male neighbour had put a mug of tea on the fence post with 2 biscuits in a bag hanging from the handle. I drank the tea and put the mug back. Later it had disappeared. The event was never mentioned, but I gave him a big hug next time I saw him, he patted by back and that was the end of it. That was 25 yrs ago now, but the best tea ever.

anothernamechangeagainsndagain · 03/01/2024 12:50

Yabu. Milk is horrible, earl grey is amazing and biscuits, well I don't dunk so we agree there. Green tea leaves from the Chinese cash and carry makes the best hot drink!

maddiemookins16mum · 03/01/2024 12:52

Milk first here. It tastes different, I can tell straight away if someone does milk second.

Zanatdy · 03/01/2024 12:56

I agree apart from tea bag in sink. I have a little used tea bag plate and they go in recycling once full. Also add I always take tea bags on holiday abroad with me

honeylulu · 03/01/2024 13:02

I forgot to mention tea bag/sink. Hate teabags dumped in sink. It leaves a mark that has to be scrubbed. We keep a little compost caddy on the windowsill next to sink and tea bags go straight in there.

doris9034 · 03/01/2024 13:03

I like tea, but i don't understand my parents peoples obsession with it!!
Literally, every 10 minutes - shall we have a cup of tea? No!!!
The worst one is after dinner - nice meal, couple of glasses of wine - shall we have a cup of tea? NOOOOOOOOO!!!

Enko · 03/01/2024 13:16

Well I don't like tea bags and use loose tea.

I dont like milk in tea at all drink it black.

I like Earl Grey a lot.
I think Tetley Yorkshire. Clipper and Pg tips etc taste horrid. No wonder you all need milk in to dilute the taste.

I am not a great biscuit fan it's actually rare I have biscuit w tea.

I do not dunk them of I do.

I dont use tea bags so no issue with staining/sink or sharing them

All my tea is made in a tea pot. I have smaller pots for when I just want 1 cup.

I keep English Breakfast tea for friends who visit. And I serve them milk if they want. I don't expect to be able to tell others how to have their tea.

I do draw the line at instant coffee we only have beans/ground coffee..

Also op you are aware there are tea leaves inside your tea bags right? You can't find them that stupid..

ActDottie · 03/01/2024 13:23

Of course YABU. Different people like different things and that’s ok.

Personally I hate tetley and the cheaper teas out there. I prefer Darjeeling tea as it’s more delicate.

mn29 · 03/01/2024 13:27

Agree with some, disagree with others. How is sharing a teabag across clean unused cups gross? Pour boiling (sterile) water on teabag, transfer it with a clean spoon to another clean cup and pour boiling water on it again. Nothing gross about it, just wasteful to use one per cup.

Aaron95 · 03/01/2024 13:35

I think sharing a tea bag across different cups is gross
Why? Both the cups and the teabag are going to be covered in boiling water.

I think tea leaves as opposed to bags are stupid
Tea leaves means less plastic waste and it is a lot better for the environment.

I like Tetley. Hate Earl Gray.
Me too. Earl Grey has bergamot added to it which I hate the taste of.

mn29 · 03/01/2024 13:36

Also, most tea bags are now compostable so can go in the food waste bin - check your box/packet. The sink is never the place for them though.

novhange · 03/01/2024 13:37

I think sharing a tea bag across different cups is gross

You just have exceptionally dirty cups 🤮 @thegruffalosmaw

Mine are gleaming. Sharing a tea bag is fine.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 03/01/2024 13:47

Sorry op but tea needs to be made in a pot, milk in the cup first so it mixes with the tea without any need to stir. Biscuits should be dunked. I agree with you on earl grey.

LenaLamont · 03/01/2024 13:49

Bergamot is delicious, Earl Grey is lovely.

caringcarer · 03/01/2024 14:52

I like a teabag in a pot. YANBU if you don't use a bone china tea pot and cup and matching milk too.

caringcarer · 03/01/2024 14:52

letmechange · 03/01/2024 12:15

My aunt always insisted on loose leaf tea which we never had in our house so we would cut open a teabag so there was some leaves floating around in her cup and she was happy then thinking she had got what she wanted.

Ignorance is bliss 😂

😁

I find it hard to find a pint if milk with a floral pattern.

I agree with everything you said OP except this one. it's no different to a tea pit but saves getting a tea piot dirty.

Topseyt123 · 03/01/2024 16:17

One teabag per mug. For me the milk goes in first because that tends to stop it over brewing and becoming too strong - I detest "builder's" tea.

DH is the opposite. Teabag in first, let it brew and brew until it is so strong that the teaspoon would nearly stand up unaided in it. Then add such a teeny tiny bit of milk that I wonder why he bothers putting any in it at all. 🤣

We both like Yorkshire tea, but will use other brands or a supermarket home brand if necessary. Neither of us is into other flavours of tea, although two of our DDs are.

Neither of us dunks biscuits. We just eat them separately. Used teabags are put on a saucer near to the kettle. This is emptied a couple of times a day into the kitchen composter, which goes out into a brown caddy that is taken away by the bin men each week.
